I live in a pretty upscale urban suburb near Philadelphia. Emailing with a local dealer about whether she can match a price I can get at two dealerships within 200 miles. She said “I cant, they have different programs there as they are a different region. each region gets different incentives and rebates.”
Is this true or is it more likely that she can/will do only 12% off msrp and not the 17% being offered outside NY? Seemed unlikely that Infinity is giving NY dealers something that Philly dealers aren’t getting. Then again, I have no clue and it could totally be the case.
My thinking is it was an unwillingness to do this good of a deal vs being unable to bc the other dealer is getting some mfr incentive that local dealer isn’t
Yes different regions do get different incentives. It’s usually by area like “south east” or “north east” etc. it can also vary by vehicle and inventory. Check Edmunds forums for exact incentives for your exact zip.
lol. What would I do without this immensely helpful response?
That doesn’t address my question and can’t/won’t matters bc if she “won’t” then it is worth my time calling elsewhere locally. If she can’t — bc programs are, in fact, different, it is not.
The money leaving your bank is the same. So your motivation to pursue a better deal should be the same whether she says “can’t” or “won’t.”
If somehow her “can’t” makes a higher payment more palatable to you than a “won’t”, then I have nothing else to say because I cannot fathom this thought process.
You’re making no sense. If her inability to match/beat a deal is due to better incentives elsewhere, it doesn’t make sense for me to ask the same question of 3-4 other dealers near me. They will face the same issue. But if she is playing games and lying, it does (or at least it might).
Not complicated.
Thanks for your contribution. Helpful. Have a great day
Highly likely. This goes back to Max’s point. Put together a target deal, make an offer, and they either accept it or don’t. No benefit in trying to argue with them as to why they’re not accepting it.
