Incredible vehicle and engine, but may be over powered for a daily driver. 40 should be plenty to haul the family and the m50 is the way to go if the difference in $ is no object (I drove a 113k msrp, with 4.4k miles on it and was quoted 1736 a month lol).
I must admit, I was disappointed with the lack of roominess in this vehicle. Coming from a 7 series, it felt cramped. Also, the space behind 3rd row is non existent. The odd bucket seat arm rests make pass through relatively impossible. I too need to transport two kids and sometimes a pair of Boston terriers, can’t see how that would be done easily unless you plan to keep the third row flipped down or drive with a roof box
Unrelated note, as far as rear leg/child seat room in larger BMWs… I am perfectly happy being 6 ft 2 with a tall SO in a 50i X5, and a car seat in the back…
However, my prior F10 550i was terrible in this regard, in large part due to having ventilated (useless feature in BMWs IMHO) and massage front seats. They are freaking massive and eat into back seat room to a significant extent.
X7 is merely an extended wheelbase x5, from a size standpoint its very disappointing, it’s one of the best driving suvs out there of that size but actually functionality is a big failure in the 2nd and 3rd row, as far as luxury full size suvs go I would go navigator or escalade all day before a gls or x7, assuming you will be using the 2nd and 3rd rows enough.
@armic777 the m50i gives the x7 the kick it deserves similar to a 740 vs 750, but it depends on how dead set you are on getting a deal vs getting the vehicle you want. I can only see a handful of times where the m50 is more beneficial than the 40i, and that would be highway on-ramp merging, merging/lane closures pushing you over and passing situations from 40-65 range, other than that I don’t think it’s worth a $400 or $500 premium jumping from the 40i to the m50i.
Mother in law and niece come along occasionally; or when family is in town and we’d like to take one vehicle. We use third row about once a month in our other vehicle
Previous gen escalade 3rd row is admittedly a bit smaller than it should be but still does better than the x7 and gls, the new gen escalade is much better in terms of that.
The cargo room is a fair point, even the regular navigator doesn’t have that much room once all 3 rows are up, extended wheelbase is necessary I guess for long distance trips with a full cabin, probably still need a roof box as well.
Somewhat agreed on lack of overall room in the X7. Although, at 6’2", I felt relatively comfortable… wouldn’t say cramped. I also tested the M50i and the engine is incredible. Same for the interior. I couldn’t even look at the x40i afterwards LOL. Amazing car overall and I unfortunately also missed out on the deals.
