Deals for Dad? -- Honda CRV / Subaru Forester / Similar SUV

This site’s user shared lease information was a tremendous help when I secured a 2017 F-Type Coupe for $442/mo with 12k mi/yr last Fall. I love the car and posted about my experience in case you would like to read more about my process.

Now, I’m working on helping out my father, as his Honda CR-V lease is up in a few months. He’s also interested in the Subaru Forester, and I think he would go for a comparable small SUV if the price was even better. He had the Rav-4 in the past and we weren’t fans.

He’s looking for:

- NY Resident
**- 36 month lease **
- Ideally 15k mi/yr unless there is an incrementally better deal for 12k/yr
- Warrany coverage up to 45k mi (this was an extra $10/mo)
- AWD
- Payments below the $349/mo (including taxes) he pays now
- Ideally forgiving his overage mileage :weary:
- The lowest downpayment possible of course (MSD’s are OK)

Demo/Service vehicles and “one off” or leftover vehicles would work as well – Any assistance with #'s is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Depending on how the incentives and rates stack up for August, maybe see if you can’t score an Alfa Romeo Stelvio or Stelvio Sport in budget? Might require a 24 month lease though.

Subaru, VW Tiguan maybe Equinox and Terrain

These all fit. What is your budget?

If it is $400 and change, he may be able to get into a Stelvio as @28firefighter mentioned.

What’s your tax rate? NY varies by county

How much is he over?

The Stelvio would be my choice, but he’s retired and more concerned with price.

Thanks. Do you have any #'s I can use to secure a deal on any?

Dad’s budget is no more than $349/mo including Orange County NY tax (8.125%).

Orange County NY Tax Rate: 8.125%

He’s over by 8k miles currently.

Forester/Outback Premium w/eyesight are doable at this price. Maybe even Limited.

I was just thinking Outback might lease better.

8K miles over 36k or 45K? How many payments are left and how much is each?

The more negative equity (mileage overage, remaining payments, etc) you roll into your next lease, the more expensive it’s going to be…

Why not finish the lease? You’re paying the miles either way

I think it’s too much of a station wagon for my macho father :sunglasses:

We are coming to the end of his lease in 3 months. I checked again and he is at 44k miles (45k total allowed for the lease) and it was the 36k warranty that he had to extend to 45k miles.

It looks like he’s in line with his mileage for this lease, I’m just trying to get him squared away for his next lease. Dealers have excused his overage in the past and gotten him into a new car before the old lease was up.

Do you know of any deals on the market now? Thanks!

Forester is 2nd on the list after the CR-V, which he’s used to. Has anyone hacked a Forester (automatic transmission) lately? Thanks

There is no hacking on Subarus, just get the best selling price and everything else is the same. No incentives and there is nothing stackable to worry about. Get MF/RV on Edmunds and play with the selling price in the calculator to see your payment.
The best discount we’ve seen here is 16%.
