Dealership requesting correction of title for a lease

Have an unusual situation… received a letter today with a DMV Vehicle Transfer and Reassignment form for a leased car. Basically dealer wrote up my lease incorrectly it seems and put it as a retail vehicle and not a lease. Now they want me to sign the DMV documents and transfer the vehicle back to them?

What are the ramifications of leaving things the way they are, and what is the purpose of having the vehicle title transferred back?

Thanks y’all.

It’s been a while since I was last on this site…. Are you asking whether a scenario like this is plausible or whether you can somehow leave things as they are and score yourself ownership of a vehicle you leased and didn’t purchase? I will give you the benefit of the doubt and suggest you just call the dealership’s sales manager and ask for clarification / confirm the letter is legit before you sign anything and return the letter.

Just do what they’re asking you to do.

They made a mistake, help them fix it and move on.

The car never gets titled properly, the bank whose doing your lease doesn’t ever receive a proper title, and they repossess your car, how about that?

More asking is this something that is a possible genuine mistake that happens in the lease world, or are they actually trying to pull something else on me.

Asking the dealer is certainly in the cards but want to hear perspective from a third party first.

Yeah they are asking you to transfer a car you never owned back to them. Come on.
Dealers make mistakes. Unless they are asking you for $$$, just do what they ask and let them rectify their clerical error.
