I live in NYC and today after a few months of learning everything I could from you guys I went to a dealer (I wanted to test drive) to see about a 2018 Nissan Rogue SV with Prem Pckg. Everything seemed to be going well until I asked for a full breakdown of the price. I explained to the dealer that I wanted to negotiate the MSRP as that’s how to get the monthly price down. The dealer acted like her had no idea what I was talking about and would not give me the numbers. He would only give me the lease price. What did I do wrong or what can I do differently going forward? Obviously I did not make a deal today.
I’m certainly not an expert, but I’ve never had a dealer refuse me when I asked for residual and MF.

Just tell them you need all the details to double check the numbers because you are coming up with a lower number in your calculator. If they claim they didn’t supply any details, tell them you were using typical discounting from your research. If they still balk, find another dealer somewhere else. A vehicle is a commodity.
I did all of that. I don’t understand why he would not give me the numbers.
If you want to continue to deal with that dealer, then find a better deal at a different dealer and send it back to the original one asking then to beat it.
You’re not going to get a good deal in the five boroughs or LI. You need to go to Jersey.

Agreed with @BoardWalkNJ there are about 10 Jersey Nissan dealers within about a 45 minute drive from NYC. Skip the boroughs and email jersey stores.
@aronchi and @Precisionautoleasing might have some good deals as well.
Probably so you don’t take them to another dealer and they lose the sale.
These dealers still don’t understand that a car is a commodity, especially a Nissan in the tri-state area
I would even go to CT, all dealers in NYC are more or less shenanigans who will not work with knowledgeable customer. I’m searching for a car right now and only 3 dealers replied out of 7 and only one provided numbers. Some people advised me I can get some better brand with price I provided in my request post, and this is impossible to do in NYC area not being ripped off.
