found a dealer in florida advertising no dealer fees and steep discounts on new cars that have probably been sitting for awhile with as little as 10-50miles but in small print is says you have to purchase them as used vehicle. Why would they do this?
Maybe they were unwound deals that were titled but returned due to the captive not approving them.
Look at the carfax report (if available). If it says anywhere “registered as purchase/lease” or similar, it can’t be sold as new.
They’re probably the type of dealer that lets people drive off in a new car before they’re approved for financing.
Could be a “punched” vehicle that the dealer sold to themselves to meet a sales target or some other bonus from the factory.
Actually signing the contract, at least with BMWFS, they warned me it takes about 10 days for BMW to process on their end and while rare, sometimes BMW pulls it. Literally no idea how they enforce that.
They enforce it by saying bring the car back and it is like an extended test drive.
Call and ask them
This is the most probable situation. As Michael stated “punched” vehicle that the dealer sold to themselves to meet a sales target
What dealership was it? Always good to know which dealerships are struggling to meet their goals down here in FL.
Are these cars at least CPO’d? I suppose if one prefers to own vs lease that could make for a good situation. Personally I largely switch cars every 1-2yrs despite driving a fair bit and finally got tired of taking an outsized hit every time I do so!
mullinax .
It could also be a sign of a dealership that is too firm on holding gross and doesn’t move the cars it should be moving. I’m guessing volume BMW dealerships don’t need to punch cars as self sales in order to meet their numbers.
I agree with your statement. The mulinax dealer by me (not branded the mulinax name but is from the mulinax family of dealerships) has no dealer fee and to the best of my knowledge gives a good “no haggle” deal up front - but not great deals. I couldn’t see myself getting as great of a deal there as I had gotten elsewhere with haggling.
