…whatever the manufacturer or dealer wants to call them.
I assume these items will not be on the original window sticker from the factory. So, how would a consumer know about them on a specific VIN/stock# before negotiations commence?

In my experience you won’t. That’s one of the advantages that dealers have.
Assuming you look at the vehicle or ask for a sticker before you start negotiations.
You pick a car and start negotiating, not the other way around.

I refuse to run numbers for a customer until they pick out a stock number.
If I do not have what you want what good will my numbers do?
Make offers instead of asking for quotes and don’t let them add them. If they insist, neotigate additional discount to offset. If you ask for quotes they can put as much of this shit as they want to see what sticks.
Depends on the dealer. Some will say “it’s already on there, you have no choice”. Others, well, are better. Leased an Ariya last week, confirmed no paint protection/ other bs and they replied no immediately. Much happier customer…
These dealers are living in 2021 I wouldn’t reward them with business on principle
Pretty much a deal breaker.
Well are these add-ons typically pre-installed, or do they try to sell them to you after you’ve reached a deal off of the sticker?
How’s this?:
“Hello, I’m interested in this VIN/stock#. Before we start the negotiations, are there any pre-installed add-ons on this vehicle?”
A waste of time, imo.
Pick out a stock number and make an offer. If it has pre-installed options, they can either remove them and hit your offer, hit your offer with them included, or not hit your offer. It doesn’t really matter to you how they get there.
This is the right attitude.
If the store wants to lose their ass on the front end and hold back to sell product that’s their prerogative as long as the payment and down you agreed to are the same as what you signed on for.
