I’ve been negotiating with a dealer in another part of the state, and once we agreed on a deal, she is saying I have to come in and sign the paperwork in person, but they can’t guarantee the car will still be available when I arrive (I am planning on buying a one way ticket and flying up on Saturday then driving the car back home). Is this correct? Sounds super shady to me…
not shady, they can fedex you paper work though. only reason they can not fax is because they need the carbon copies. remember it is a legal document you are signing with copies that need to go to DMV, business office and what not.
depends on the dealer and applicable state laws. I know ray catena here in nj does electronic signatures but the penske dealer does not.
ok thx. surely there must be some way to hold the car so i dont end up buying a flight and then getting there and the cars gone? we’re taling a day and a half of them waiting lol.
tell them you’ll put a deposit down. that’ll show them you’re serious. and usually the deposit is refundable meaning the dealer should give you your money back because they didn’t sell you anything…
depends on what state you are in, i’m in CA and we were not allowed to hold used cars. something to do with a state law. if the sales person is cool they’ll do what they can to hold it for you but it all depends on who you are dealing with.
ill tell them ill do a deposit. im in CA as well but its a new car, not a used one.
deposit is the way to go. They don’t like holding cars for a long time, so if you tell him “ill come in 2 weeks to get the car” they prob won’t do that but if you put a deposit, i don’t see why they can’t hold the car for a few days
The easiest solution would be that they overnight the paperwork with Fedex or UPS and they have Maverick notarized the paperwork I’ve done this plenty of times and plus it puts everything at ease with the dealership here’s the link o maverick: https://mavsign.com/
I’ve put down a deposit (part of the drive off) about 10 days before I was able to take a one way flight and pick up my car. They’ve also asked me to sign the contract, scan and send it to them. I was reluctant at first but eventually did so after reading a lot of good review on that dealership, so I was afraid of some bait and switch.
It shouldn’t be an issue to get them to hold it if you explain the situation. I’ve noticed big things are credit apps being completed with dealers. If you tell them you’re flying in and offer to show them a copy of ticket and still won’t promise the car is secured then the deal was probably phucked to begin with. They are testing and wanting assurances with you and you should with them aswell.
