Finally got some good deals and dealer is asking for my license and insurance id to secure the car. I’m completely new to leasing. What does it mean? If I secure this car, can I change my mind to buy another car from a different dealer?
Yeah it’s pretty normal stuff for them to get that information from you. Assuming this is a real dealer and not some shady store or Craigslist ad, you should be fine. Most people aren’t willing to commit a felony or lose their dealer license just to get a copy of some random person’s DL and Insurance card.
Until you sign a contract, you can always back out and not get a car at all, or not get a car from this dealer. Although you may burn a bridge and deal with some stress in that process.
I want to see what happens if you ask a dealer to present a SOC 2 Type 2 report for PII controls at the dealership. I can imagine what that report will look like if you ask @thevolvoguy for one.
This is normal.
Take their deal and shop it
Got it! Thank you!
Just don’t sign paperwork. ESPECIALLY a credit app
The ID / Insurance is in case you take it for a test drive and shows you are serious.
Thats a very low commitment to ask for, there shouldn’t be any hesitancy on your end
Step one. Stop talking to dealers. Test drive but no other discussion.
Step two. Figure out your target. Ask the forum for help if necessary.
I would never hold a car without a credit app in house and a signed buyers order.
My GM: “YOU HELD A CAR FOR A 431 CREDIT SCORE!?!?!?!?”
^^^^^^^^^^^
That would be funny but I wouldn’t want to annoy here THAT much
I’ve seen dealers ask for Credit Apps for non existent cars. Lol
And of course blame 9-11
I would gladly print a purchase order with a VIN.
Understood Thank you
I’ve got a good deal i think. Will post if i sign the deal.
I won’t sign any paperwork for now
Yeah, you on the buy-side may see one contract every 3 years… while TheVolvoGuy sees 25 contracts a day on the sell-side.
Make sure you’re comfortable before you sign anything. LH is full of great users that are able to help with feedback before anything becomes binding.
And you’ve seen what’s done to what remained of his mind and soul.
J/K, @thevolvoguy! Or am I…?
I’m pretty sure he sold his soul for a few 10-survey responses and one lucrative deal on a V60.
Yup at this point every time I have to take the LIRR back from a customer’s house. “Are you going to board the train or get hit by it”
I thought you stopped doing home deliveries?
Even Tesla would do home delivery by having two people go in two vehicles so the delivery person could ride back.
The problem is when your store is known for one thing, its really hard to stop doing the one thing. Multiple deliveries to brooklyn and queens every week.
Also having more than on person involves having staff. If I do a locate for a customer, I am the one spending either my working day or day off driving to go get it
I don’t ask for ID or insurance until we are ready to submit the deal. Nothing shady but it’s a premature step unless you are ready to proceed with the numbers and pricing provided.
