@jay3 sorry but I’m a new user just starting navigate the site and forum. Seems my deal is a horrible one so I’m glad I’m didn’t sign and came here to do more research. By the way, how do I search the marketplace on the forum as you said? Might be a dump question but can you help out?
Click on Marketplace and then use the dropdown menus
It is not perfect, for example some sellers in NY will sell to MA customers and some will not.
Any insights on how much BMW tire and wheel coverage for 48 months on 2025 X7 xdrive40i should cost? Dealer quoting $3240 (claims this is discounted from regular retail $5000). I think this is way too expensive but I’m wondering what a fair price would be and how much people typically pay?
$3-$4k is typical for a third party product sold at the dealer. I get mine through AAA that uses the same company that many dealers use, and save anywhere from $1-$2k on a policy that includes way more than just w&t, so much better value. Don’t even have to be a member to purchase it and the claims process is exactly the same as it would be if it was dealer purchased.
I’m AAA member so I should check with them. And are claim repairs done at BMW or at their own repair shops?
They stipulate that the repairs must be done at authorized repair shops of your choosing, which include dealers. Up until recently, AAA in the Northeast used Smart Autocare and I had my claims processed without problems at BMW and Mercedes dealers. They now work with another company on their newly issued policies (the name slips my mind). The contract includes more detailed language about who on their end has to approve the claim before allowing the dealer to do the work.
I just purchased one for my RR but haven’t had a claim, so no real experience yet. The AAA reps will send you a sample contract before you buy so you can ask all the questions you have. One thing they make clear is that AAA stands behind the product and they will intervene if you have any issues.
This is very helpful @jay3. I appreciate the feedback
If you do end up purchasing through them or even getting a price quotation, let us know here so it can serve as a datapoint for others on the forum that are in the same boat.
Why are you doing a 48m lease in the first place?
Not leasing, 60 month finance
If you finance, get at least something that’s few years old (not brand new), otherwise you will eat the depreciation curve first candidly. If you want to drive something new all the time, then lease it but try to find a good deal where you will “save” lose less than on purchasing a new car. Just do some simple math on what it will cost you over 3 years and then decide what you want to do with your hard earned money
Just self-insure on the tires. If you do get a flat, buy a new set of 4 at Costco and you’ll have road hazard insurance for five years.
Sell the 3 OE tires to someone looking for used tires for a lease return.
