My usual workday commute is also the same…
Don’t know if you meant a new Corolla or Camry, but I def agree that a new Camry would be a better use of $ than would be a 14 yr old RX.

Are there any $300 per month 2 year economy car leases around? 2 years would be $7200.
I think @Cody_Carter (in SoCal) was offering gas Camrys for < $300/mo (not including inceptions), but I don’t know if that’s still the case.
I can’t speak for the OP, but, even w/ only a 6-mi daily roundtrip commute, I’d personally rather have a new, modern mid-sized sedan vs. a 14-yr car.
Yea I remember that deal w the Camry. I though there were some Kia/Hyundai one too.
FWIW, MMR on ‘10 RX with 200k is somewhere between $5-6k…
Does that means that this is pretty fairly priced?
It doesn’t really make sense either way. Either get a cheaper beater or spend ~$10k for a car with warranty
What’s your pick for a 10k beater?
Chevy Spark
It’s a POS but you can probably find a much newer lower mileage one at this price
There’s a long thread called “what would you buy for $10k” where I’ve made multiple recommendations.
A quick google suggests Rt 66 warranty doesn’t have their best plan available for sub 8yr/75k vehicles any more — it’s only sub 3yr/15k or something absurd now. So that’s out.
Since that’s out the best plan is a reliable Toyota product (incl Scion and Lexus) and spending well below 10k and thus keeping a nicer rainy day fund. Tires and brakes as soon as they’re necessary— and the good stuff, not the cheap junk. A new head unit with CarPlay or Android plus BT and backup camera.
So either of the two Prius I listed above, particularly the black 86k miler with battery replacement already done. Or:

Realistically, if you’re a dealer and pay $6k for a car at the auction, your real cost is probably over $6500 (auction fees, transport, reconditioning, etc…). The $8500 they’re asking is probably right in line with the retail “value”…. Whether this is a good deal - only you can answer it.
For $8500, it should have the 200k maintenance done. How’s the condition of the car? The body, any rust or dent? How’s the interior, especially the leather? Any crack/tear? When did they change the suspension/strut? (miles & years). How’s the tires? I’ll pay 8.5k if 200k maintenance done, body & interior are good, suspension/strut changed recently and PPI came back ok. Otherwise adjust the price accordingly.
I’ll pick 2002-2006 Lexus ES300/330 - you can get 100k miles for $6-8k.
And I remember reading somewhere about MY 2010 RXs having a certain issue. This has obviously been addressed as the car has 200K miles on it.
Insurance is going to be more expensive on an old beater than on a new car. The insurance on my recently departed 2012 Camry was about twice as much as on my 2022 NX.
its dead JIm
Dont do it. We got (for the teen) 2016 volvo xc60 premier with 90k miles for $9000 from cars.com in PA, small used car dealer. Seek similar. Or get cheap EV to lease. Or Electric Unicycle hehehe.
Do you think that was just b/c of the age? When I was car shopping 5.5 yrs ago, I asked my insurance agent for a quote on a Camry. It was significantly higher than the quote for the car I ended up getting (VW Golf Sportwagen).
