Deal Check / Troubleshooting: VW ID.4 Pro RWD

Hey everyone!

I saw this post in the “signed” section and wanted to try my luck at the $45/month lease deal:

I reached out to a local dealer who had the same exact model in stock and explained what I was trying to do. They seemed very willing to work with me and shot me back a worksheet, but the numbers just aren’t lining up…despite the discounts and rebates being there. On top of that, the sales tax of $2100 is sticking out to me as an oddity. It’s been a while since I’ve leased, but doesn’t that seem rather high? almost as if it being taxed on the entire sales price of the car?

What am I missing here? We seem pretty close with around $2000 DAS and $125 month…but not quite there.

I’m the one that signed the $45/month lease. Your purchase price is significantly higher than mine and why are they only giving you $5000 rebate? The federal tax credit is $7,500. My selling price is $34,654 vs yours at $40,000. That’s $5,345 difference plus they’re not giving you the full federal tax credit, so it’s $7,846 total price difference.

Hey, thanks for chiming in!

The $5000 is the is current Bonus Cash offer.

That $40,000 figure is simply what they are taking off msrp on the car.

The $7500 EV rebate is being applied upfront as a “down payment”, similar as it was used in your deal.

The thing that I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around is the the Sales Tax of $2,100. I’m in KY and our sales tax is 6% It’s been a minute since I leased, but shouldn’t that tax just be on the amount that I’m leasing? $2,100 is effectively 6% of $35,000. That’s where things are breaking down for me.

If you take out that $2,100 in Sales Tax, the purchase price for the car is $35,777, which is still a bit higher than yours, but with the higher residual this month should be pretty close overall.

I don’t know about KY specifically, but I think incentives and such in most states are taxed.
