I’m a mom who has always wanted a fancy car, but I’m drawn to the boxier styles. This will be my first lease, as I usually buy my car outright, so please be nice.
The dealer has come back to me twice and I’ve responded with polite, and knowledgable responses, based upon what I’ve read from this forum. Thank you to everyone for sharing their experiences!
I’m attaching his most recent response. He said that the MF is .00108 with 10 MSDs. He also said that the “payment credit is $450,” and I have no idea what that means. It sounds like this is his last offer, but I wanted to get some of you to look this over before I make up my mind.
As you can see, the quote includes $1500 cash down, which I think is to help lower the monthly payment. I need higher miles because I’m always driving my kids somewhere. The rebate is PenFed, plus Covid = $1000 ($500 + $500).
Edmunds listed the following for the FWD in May (didn’t change from April):
.00128 MF and 58% RV for 36/15K.
Incentives: I only found the $500 for Covid and I found the PenFed $500 in the forums here.
So the dealer is giving you .00108 after 10 MSDs. At buy rate, you should be at .00058 after MSDs. Means they’re marking up the MF by .0005. That basically means your $4500 discount is actually a ~$3100 discount.
They’re asking for $1500 due at sale as well as $5500 in security deposits. The $1500 covers some of the costs, but it doesn’t change the discount amount. The MF mark up just means they’re showing a bigger discount on the sales price but making a bunch of extra on financing.
So, his MF is wrong, but what he said about payment credit is right? What is payment credit? (sorry to be a newbie, but I’m learning quickly!!)
Feel free to DM me, if this is getting too be too much to post here. I was looking on the forum for a broker in my area, but I didn’t see anyone. This is my best, and only, source of knowledge right now.
Ha, what a douche, that email is pretty condescending. Sounds like you’re really putting them out if you buy a car from them, I’d move on and shop another dealer! Or propose an actual good deal and tell them take it or leave, you have my info
Thanks, Joe- I was really being nice, but I also sensed the same. I’ll have to travel a good hour, or two, if I really want to find another dealer. FYI- This is also the GM that I’m dealing with- not a salesperson.
