Currently trying to decide to purchase or lease. Prefer to purchase (is it possible to get for $47K?) but the extra $7.5K for leasing is enticing. Please help!
Below is the lease offer for a 2024 Audi Q4 E-Tron Premium Plus with Black Optic Option.
@waterlilinyc - Once you find a lease structure that you like… Instead of the $10k of your own cash down, switch the funds over to a security deposit instead. Your monthly payment will go up a bit, but you get the $10k back when you turn the car instead of exposing your cash to a residual loss in the event your vehicle is totaled during the lease term.
It’s actually not $10K of my own cash down. I received a Clean Cars Grant of $10K and I was told it counts as a cash down. It works for a purchase or lease of an EV that’s priced under $48K after manufacturers’ rebates and lease credits. If I were to purchase, I don’t think they will sell the Audi Q4 Premium Plus for under $48K, right?
The $10K is a Clean Cars Grant and it’s supposed to be applied like cash down. Audi Q4 is one of the EV’s that qualifies in the program as long as the selling price is $48K or under. I’d like to get the Premium Plus, not Premium. There is only 1 Audi dealership approved and participating in the program. I didn’t disclose to the dealer that I have the grant, am afraid to do that then they won’t need to negotiate since they’re the only one participating in the program.
Yeah you’re doing the BAAQMD? I’m more impressed you can have income that qualifies for this and can still get a lease from Audi. You definitely want to lease to get the $7,500.
Salvador Velasquez at Steven’s Creek seems to be the only person at a luxury automaker in the SF Bay Area who knows how to process this thing. Congrats on the hack haha.
Just to keep the LH lynch mob at bay when you post this in the Signed! forum… make sure you mention the BAAQMD money in the lease.
Don’t forget PG&E, MCE, and PCE also have stackable money.
My understanding is needing good credit to secure a lease so that’s not an issue. My income (or the lack thereof) qualifies because I’m retired and don’t get a regular paycheck.
Surprisingly, there are a couple MBZ EQB’s on the BAAQMD approved vehicle list but no MBZ is listed as a participating dealership so I don’t know where/how anyone can get a MBZ!
I initially was considering a Kia Sorento PHEV and went directly to the appointed contacts at the dealerships with the grant, they wouldn’t budge on the MSRP and insisted that being the sales price. It seemed like they would not lower the price because they knew I have the grant money. Now that we changed to EV, my attempt is to play it smart, get them to lower the price as much as possible, then ask for Sal so I can use this grant money.
At this time, I’m still debating on Audi Q4 Premium Plus or Tesla Model Y LR AWD.
Yeah the overhang for a dealership to adhere with the BAAQMD is massive. Normal luxury showrooms don’t want the mess. Getting a hacked lease wasn’t the real intent of the BAAQMD.
Not to take money from Salvador, but the primary reason EQB 250 is on there isn’t to get a new one… it’s to qualify it for used.
Here’s one at Carmax. Their customer demographic fits the normal people that would want BAAQMD, so they’re well equipped to process this. But this car doesn’t seem like a better option than the Q4 eTron.
This car is already “discounted” for the $7,500. So imagine getting this for $23k after the BAAQMD money. It’d be about $400 a month on a 60 month loan after the incentive, but you’d own the car at the end.
The sales manager asked me directly why I want to put $10K down. Hah. I didn’t disclose, of course…just said we want the lower monthly payment. Geez, that quote sucks that badly!? There’s a $8.5K discount, then that $9K lease credit. Told them we’ll go home to look over the numbers and the sales manager tried to pressure us into making a decision on the spot. Otherwise, he will not be able to get that great of deal for us later.
Ideally, we would like to make the purchase but since the requirement is the car has to be $48K or lower, we need that $7500 lease credit, then buy it out after.
We’re now with EV grant (instead of PHEV) so it’s between Hyundai Ioniq 5, Tesla Model Y or Audi Q4.
I realized yeah, I don’t know if I can do that - lease for 3 months to buy it out. I need to re-read the BAAQMD guidelines to see if that works.
Some of the cars on the approved list are for used models. It’s too much trouble to go through trying to find those from the participating dealerships.
