Deal check : Lease Maserati 2023 Modena VS Buy Maserati 2022 Modena Q4

Hi I am geting the below 3 options and want to see what you suggest if they are good and which one seems better. All option are for California.

option 1: Lease

2023 Maserati Ghibli Modena Q4
MSRP: $107k
Term: 39 mo / 7.5k
Due on drive off $3999
Monthly Payment: $1034 plus tax

Option 2 : Lease

2023 Maserati Ghibli Modena Q4
MSRP: $107k
Term: 48 mo / 7.5k
Due on drive off $3999
Monthly Payment: $979 plus tax

Option 3 - Purchase ( not available to lease)

2022 Maserati Ghibli Modena Q4
MSRP: $106k
Sale Price: 63k (almost 42% discount of MSRP)
Loan Term: 48 months
downpayment: 10k
Monthly Payment: $1175

I currently lease a ghibli which is due to return next month and I came across some seemingly good march deal specials on 2023 model. I understand that Ghibli will only hold 30-35% residual after 4 years but the purchase deal with significant discount is making it hard to choose between lease vs buy. I would appreciate some expert advise

I think it’s a universal rule that buying a Maserati is one of the worst financial decisions you can make. What is the discount off msrp on the lease, I would plug the numbers into the calculator so we can evaluate the deal.

Are these offers from ads?

Hi trism . No they are from any ads. These are the numbers i have received from the dealer in written. however lease numbers are valid only till 3/31.

39 month
MF - 0.00087
Residual - 41%

48 months
MF - 0.00133
Residual - 38%

usually I agree with you. My last 2 Maseratis have been leases. But because the 2022 Maserati is discount over 40% , that’s why I am seeking experts opinion.

Discount off MSRP on ghibli 2023 lease - 24.44% discount ( MSRP $107k, Selling price $81K)

Discount off MSRP 2022 ghibli purchase - 41% (MSRP $106k, Selling price 63k)

I did plug both numbers in calculator as you suggested. for 48 months. I used Maserati APR 5.49% for the loan.

Lease - effective monthly price $1132 over 48 months
Finance - effective monthly price $666 over 48 months (Positive Vehicle Equity after 48 months: $35,374)

thanks!

6-yr-old ghiblis aren’t worth anywhere near $35k. I’m seeing them for sale for low 20s, so figure trade is going to be high teens.

Also, what kind of repairs and maintenance are we talking during those 4 yrs? Does the 2023 come with any maintenance plan?

Thirdly, does your posted payment on the used one include tax?

I dont see how this loan could possibly cover a $63k sales price.

A $63k sales price in CA is going to be more like $70k OTD. With $10k down and a 5.5% apr, youre looking at a $1400/mo monthly for 48 months

Do you really want to spend that much money to drive the same thing again?

I didn’t even read your post, but I saw the word “buy” and “Maserati” next to one another and wanted to submit a PSA to Never, ever purchase a Maserati! You lease one or you do nothing at all.

Might as well buy a 2021 for 40k instead

Hi there … you are right. I was looking at a 60 month loan payment. After making the correction to 40 month loan term, the payment is $1361/month. thanks for correcting it!

Total payment $47,305 over 48 months.

Principal Paid: $58,513
Interest Paid: $6,793
Down Payment: $10,000
Positive Vehicle Equity after 48 months: ($28,000)

2022 Maserati ghibli is not old, it’s still sold as brand new but it is 2022 year. It comes with 4 year/50k factory warranty. I average around 7-8k per year in miles, so I would assume after 4 years it would have about 30-32k miles driven.

Hi Qb,

2022 is not a used one. It’s still sold as brand new but it is 2022 year. It comes with 4 year/50k factory warranty. I average around 7-8k per year in miles, so I would assume after 4 years it would have about 30-32k miles driven.
Do you think it would be worth in high 20s after 4 years/30k miles? I see 2018/2019 ghiblis listed for low to high 30s right now.

Both 2023 and 2022 come with Maserati new vehicle limited warranty, 4 year/50k mile. Any Premium Maserati Maintenance plan would be extra on both and it’s $2700 for 48months if I add it.

I think youre kidding yourself with this one

ok what would be realistic number ?

I bet youd be lucky to sell it for $20k. Id expect a total cost of ownership before factoring in any maintenance, etc, of $55-60k

Got it. Yes 60k cost of ownership seems about right. I could also add a Maserati extended warranty plan if want to keep it an extra year or two , past the 4 year? They are offering it at 2300 per year.

Since they are stopping producing Ghiblis past 2024, do you think this might make the value hold better?

Not a chance

Couldn’t you do that by buying out your existing lease? Or how underwater is that?

Maybe if you slap a Toyota badge on it :joy:
