Deal check: Ford Expedition

,

Limited expedition 4x2. Msrp: $69,000. 24 month lease $600 a month sign drive. NY. Did I do good?

Seems pretty solid except you got 2WD in NY.

That’s a hell of a deal. Please post the full details.

Agree. Great looking deal but my guess is that deal has to be a dealer in NY wanting to dump a 4x2. Not sure where in NY you are but I couldn’t live through winters without 4x4.

Not everyone’s needs and circumstances are the same.

In Ohio I have an overpowered 2WD sedan that’s completely worthless in snow/ice.

I’m out of town fully 1/3 of the time, and when I’m not, I work from home.

I also have another vehicle that’s perfectly capable for winter trips to/from the airport or Costco.

Use winter tires in the winter.

This!

I’ve driven a mustang for the last 14 years. I put plain steel wheels with nice winter tires on it every year.

I’ve never had any traction issues in the winter. Never spun out or got stuck going up hills. Nothing. Rip right through fresh snow or icy roads no problems. I see people in AWD or 4x4’s slipping and sliding, crashing all over.

Tires are a game changer. Most people don’t realize.

Yeah it is a 4x2 and I live in Buffalo but my thought is the suv is very heavy already and add some snow tires I dont think it would be a huge issue. We will see hopefully I dont end up in a ditch this winter

Hey, nothing wrong with it. I live in NJ and made the mistake once of getting a 2WD Truck rather than 4WD. Never had any issues in the snow with it either. Why was it a mistake? Because in this area, people expect AWD/4WD and the value of your vehicle tanks if it’s available with 4WD or AWD and yours isn’t. I needed to get sell the vehicle for various reasons, and no one wanted it. It was a 9 month old truck with 8k miles, and all the offers I was getting were 1/2 of what I paid. I put $10k down and I was still upside down. Called up a place in Texas, and they would give me $5k more for the truck than anyone else was offering.

Moral of the story is, if he keeps it to term, he’ll be fine. If he tries to get out of it early, he’s going to get rekt.

I agree on the snow tires, I had them on my Mustang and I drove through the snow just fine.

Good point but I’m assuming with services like carvana and vroom regional pricing will be less of an issue. i.e. they are smart enough to incur a few bucks in shipping to sell it elsewhere in the country.

Makes sense, and I understood the risk when I did my lease. The chances of not keeping the car for the duration of the lease are pretty remote.

Correct, I have nothing against 2WD vehicles, I daily’d a Mustang in North New Jersey for 4 years, and didn’t have any issues with snow tires. However, the truck was a business purchase for my company, and it had to go about 8 months after I bought it.

Shit happens. I’m sure OP will enjoy his Expedition (they’re really nice and he got a good deal on it) for the duration of his lease.
