Deal Check: Dodge Hornet in PA

Basically, MSRP $49,000 vehicle - but website has 8K coming off the top straight. Car is a loaner but under 1k miles (they say vehicles lose 10% just coming off the lot). Price for lease is $200 DAS / $200 a month for 24 / 7.5 (5K OTD for two years all in) - the mileage is fine for me, just need it mostly for short trips given my current car is very old and gets me higher 64% residual. Sales tax is 11%. This is the price I was trying to get to based on a signed deal I saw in PA on this forum, but I don’t think that car was a loaner. Residual is 64% / MF is .00013.

Should I try to get more off? Dealer has 10+ sitting on the lot.

Also it better to go GT (only a few on lot) and skip the EV? I’m not sure I can get this pricing on the GT given fewer available despite cheaper price.

Is the car being a loaner a good or bad thing → any kinks at this point have probably been fixed I figure… just having qualms about leasing American after owning Japanese / Korean cars. I figure worst comes to worst, it’s a two year experience.

I’m trying to spend as little as possible and get a decent ride… if you have any other options please let me know!

Is leasing this car a terrible idea?! Can it be relied for 200 mile+ trips?

This is about the cheapest possible car that accepts gas at this point. Take it and run.

Just to be clear, you’re aware that it is a plug in hybrid and not an ev, correct?

If you want an EV you can do a lot better FYI in the Marketplace

Curious where in PA has 11% tax?

Leases are taxed at +3% in PA so for example Philly is 11% and Pittsburgh is 10% IIRC.

Ahh knew Allegheny county, for some reason I thought Philly was 10 as well.

Yes haha. I actually kind of like it’s not full EV but wouldn’t be opposed to full EV.

What EV deals are better? I haven’t had any luck at the dealerships around me with ionics.

Just worried that these hornets suck and I’m leasing a car that will be a headache for two years. Price point is great though.

Does anyone have any idea what excess wear and tear costs on this?

Take it and run. Elentra SE cost $100/m more.

Have you driven the hornet to assess whether you think “it sucks.” If you’re worried about long term quality, reliability, it’s a two year lease, as you mention…

If you’re mainly focused on payment, not going to be many cars that are leasing as low right now.

If you’re open to EV, seems like Lyriqs are leasing well, but may be harder to find, and a bit more $

@s_a1 just FYI the Hornet is designed and made in Italy

I would say assembled in Italy. The parts are from many EU countries.

You will have to let us know your thoughts after a couple of weeks of ownership. I have considered this for my kid, but after 10 recalls on a JGC 4xe I am worried about all these CJDR hybrids. I can’t wait to get rid of the 4xe when lease ends in a few months.

Congrats. Its a great car actually. Really underrated as all reviews consider the $50K+ msrp but not actual pricing you can get.

this car is cheaper than buying or leasing a elantra, civic, really anything except full EVs.

How is it for room and space, specifically in the back?

Im considering getting one but my work schedule is a bear and I havent got to test drive yet. I wasnt sure how much room and space it has compared to something like a Tuscon, which I have seen in person and test drived.

Let me know! Thanks

I loved it on the test drive but it doesn’t have a ton of space in the back. Seats fold down and there is a pass-through, but you can tell from the outside that the rear storage is small.

Passenger space is great though, I’m 6’0" and had lots of space sitting in the back, riding shotgun, and driving.

Ya, from the pictures it looked like it was fairly roomy for driver and passenegers.

Not many dealers have great shots of the back, but yes, you’re right, I like the sleek design but the back end sort of just ends and so I do have concerns there. I keep a bunch of my sports equipment in the trunk of my sedan right now and I’m somewhat surprised that a SUV doesn’t have enough rear space to hold this stuff!

And I think the Sportage even has a VERY slightly larger back than the Tuscon.

It’s not the end all to my needs, I play on weekends and can easily fold a seat down to make room. But it does sound like the Korean models may serve me better…

But do they serve you better if they cost 50% more?
