Please make an attempt at an calculator to evaluate the deal better.
selling price before incentives? incentives? selling price after incentives? MF? Terms? What does the DAS include? Any down payment that you are doing? Any vehicle trade in? those are some answers that would be needed to fully evaluate the deal
Slightly better payment on a more loaded car (if still available?)
Should be able to get 10%ish off on a M4 vert…you need to learn how to calc a lease first tho…go to wiki here and look for tutorial on the calculator.
Do you really want a vert? Personally hate the look and think m3 looks better. TOC prob gonna be lower financing an m3 which most prefer anyway
M3 does hold value much better but people seriously looking for coupe/vert don’t really want a 4 door.
Yeah, it’s gonna be my weekend car, so I’m really just looking to enjoy a roofless ride in SoCal ![]()
I agree the M3 design is cleaner and “better” in a lot of ways, but I just don’t want one. For this purpose, the vert makes more sense for me. Design difference between coupe and vert doesn’t really bother me.
I’ve also got an X6M as my daily, so this one is purely for fun, not practicality or best TOC.
Is it though? Do you have any data on that?
I’ve been browsing used listings on Autotrader and, from what I’m seeing, M3 and M4 prices/depreciation look pretty similar overall. I even asked AI out of curiosity and got basically the same conclusion.
Not sure about the M4 vert specifically, I’ll admit that might behave a bit differently, but in general I’m not really seeing this big gap in value you’re talking about.
Look at what dealers are doing with discounts on M3 vs M4…most M3 still selling at MSRP and M4 can be 4, 6, 8+ off with verts even more.
Also, keep in mind M4 base MSRP is about $3000 more than M3.
What is the discount, rebate and adjusted cap cost?
This is a better choice of vehicle than a LL buyback SL63 but whether leasing or financing is the better structure is TBD.
So the only reason is that M3 is a sedan vs coupe and vert, right?
Good point, and yeah, definitely agree this is a much better idea than a LL SL63 - financially at least.
Right now I’m actually leaning toward buying a 2024 M4 and keeping it for about 3 years rather than leasing. If I pick one up with around 10k miles in the low $70s (MSRP on a few options I found about $105-110k), the depreciation isn’t bad at all.
Based on used market data for the M4:
M4s lose around 24–30% of their value in the first 3 years
Over 5 years, total depreciation averages around 44%
So if I buy at $72k, a realistic 2028 resale value would probably be in the $50–55k range. That means I’d lose roughly $15–22k over 3–4 years, which is very reasonable for a car in this segment. - Is math correct here?
In the US there is more demand for the sedan. I’ve heard more supply for the M4 too. Just get what you want and drive it for years and it won’t matter.
You need to do a total cost of ownership analysis because you will be paying all tax upfront on a purchase too with no credit back when sell or trade. But yeah buying discounted one year old cars generally makes a lot of sense. Ms can get beat on tho by their owners esp if selling in only one year…
You’re at $80k+ OTD due to TTL as was stated above. So if you can sell/trade for $50 then your depreciation is more like $30k.
Thinking a little outside the box don’t forget the M440i. I have a lot of seat time in the coupe and it’s a really capable car. I think you’d have to drive really hard on some very technical roads to find where the M4’s capabilities exceed it. Here’s one example of a cab for sale

$30k-ish depreciation number still sounds not bad compared to Sl63. And 2024 car will have still have 3-4 years of warranty..
As for the M440i — I totally get the logic, and I know it’s a really capable car, but one thing I’ve learned about myself is to not settle for a “lesser” model. Every time I’ve done that in the past and then see the top model I actually wanted out on the road, I just end up jealous and annoyed with my choice ![]()
You can get 6 to 8% off msrp for m4, so hopefully u lease deal includes it. Also I wouldn’t go with lease right now not very good offers compared to loan
Yes and honestly it may be worth even more than your posted figures at the end of your term, especially with now the next gen m3/m4 are received
Though a convertible m4 is prob going to be the least desirable relatively of the m3 and m4 variants so just something to keep in mind.
Sounds like you’ve thought it through. Go for it
