Deal Check - 2025 Volvo XC60 Plugin Ultra

Hey all, I’m trying to jump on a new XC60 plugin lease to get the credits before they go away (assuming they will). I plan to buy out the lease after a few months.

Before I take the plunge (coming from a 2015 Outback), I wanted to check with the experts here to see if this is a decent deal. First time leasing.

Also, should I bother with MSDs in your opinion?

I also got a quote for a Plus at $49k more or less.

If it’s NOT a good deal, what are your suggestions for negotiating this down?

Thanks in advance!

Not a good idea

The 90 has better lease programs. If that works for you as a car, take it and throw the keys back in 24 months.

The 90 is too big for my needs, so really wanting that XC60. Why is buying out the lease a bad idea? My idea is too keep the car long term. Maybe that’s off base?

I’m a newbie. Any chance you can lead me to these discussions…or at least what category I should look to find them?

They are not reliable nor do they hold value well. Lose-lose on both counts

Not sure how anyone is getting these 10% off MSRP deals. Doesn’t seem like any dealer around here will budge at all beyond 2%

Is the 90 supposed to be more reliable?

On the XC60 or XC90? Not sure how many Volvo dealers there are in Colorado (near you), but quite a few of the deals posted on the XC90 were signed last month on both the east and west coast. FWIW, it takes work to get some of these deals. When hunting for any deal, you need to contact as many dealers as possible until one says yes.

Kindly ignore the “get an XC90” comments that probably are from people that have not driven other one :joy: and read below:

Fair enough. Does seem like the 90 is seeing better offers than the 60

Ha! It’s just way too big for me. There’s only three of us in my family. I’d never in a million years need three rows of seats. Does seem like good deals though!

Well, the best deal on the wrong car is a bad deal IMO. Drive them both back to back, and then make a decision. Once we did that it was easy.

We’re on our second XC90 lease and it’s just the two of us, no kids. 3rd row has been up once, maybe twice between both leases. The extra storage is nice for beach trips or Home Depot runs. My wife drove the 60 and 90 back to back and liked the 90 more, and that’s back when the 60’s were actually cheaper than the 90’s which is the opposite now. Didnt matter, was still a great value.

YMMV but I suggest driving both. @C10H12N2O has a nice review of the 90 linked above, but some of the things mentioned we (my wife) wasn’t bothered by so it won. Gotta test for yourself.

BTW the ones we drove/leased were non T8 models, not sure if handling or comfort is any different due to extra weight, etc.

Are you shopping the deal or the car? I would suggest test driving both SUVs at your local Volvo dealer. Do not talk numbers while there. Then decide what car you like best.

You don’t have to use the third row, you know? I just ignore the fact that it’s even there.

No, but it’s a cheap lease and you throw the keys back in 2 years and let them deal with being under water.

The 60 lease is hideously overpriced right now.

As others mentioned, there are a lot of factors. For example, I live in Brooklyn, street park and drive less than 3K miles/year. Length of the car really matters. I drive an XC40. XC90 is definitely a nicer car but it would make my life more difficult even if it was the same price as XC40.

You need to decide your budget and what your short and long term goals are: do you want a low payment now or a great car for years to keep.

If former, look into some EVs or plug-ins that are heavily subsidized. You’re at nearly $900/mo effective on a $300 vehicle. $900 or less gets you a loaded AMG EQE, iX M60, etc. Their cheaper versions are available for less and qualify for CO credit. Then you can get a loaded Ionic 5 for about $200/mo and it’s arguably a much better car than the XC60. Someone from CO just posted a 24 mos deal on the Limited I5 AWD for under $5K one pay and I think they actually left money on the table.

If latter, look into plugin Toyota or Lexus that qualify for the same incentive. You simply cannot beat TCO on those. Hard stop.
