Deal Check - 2025 Volvo S90 Ultra (Demo -> Central TX)

Dealer is admittedly obfuscating #s, so I don’t have a clean worksheet unfortunately. Keep in mind, this is TX so taxes are levied against full sales price:

  1. 36/7,500 through VCFS

  2. Payment $799/month

  3. Selling price before incentives and each incentive itemized (incl. the $6,500 lease allowance + A Plan Elite and any tax credits) - $62594 - $6500 - $500 = net price $55594

  4. Money factor .00088 and residual 56%

  5. Acquisition, doc, title, registration, and how taxes are calculated - $995 acquisition fee + $225 doc fee + $201 registration + $3566 total taxes

  6. No dealer add-ons

Did they throw in the tow package so you can also drive the sales person’s new boat back-and-forth for them?

I’m not sure the current market for S90s (and in TX), but this is certainly too much to pay , especially considering > 5k miles.

I think this is a deal-check, in which case it is indeed a deal for that dealer.

Unfortunately, ~$100 of that monthly payment is sales tax. So I gather from the two of you I could push harder, but no dealer that I’ve talked to in TX seems interested… even on their higher mileage demos. What gives?

Oops… missed the deal check part. Happy you didn’t sign yet, OP.

I realize there may not be any Volvo brokers operating in Texas but what pre incentive discount do you see in the marketplace or signed section, and how does that compare to your deal?

Can you reconstruct their offer using the LH calculator?

And look for tax credits.

Pushing harder is pointless unless you can show this car is hackable via some benchmarks in Signed Deals & Tips

Very few S90 reference points bc there are so few of them. Also as @ursus said seek tax credits. Also with 12 days left in the month, make sure one’s Costco membership is current and wait until Nov (though Costco rarely includes non-SUVs).

A buddy who leased a B6 ultra when they were $459/mo sign and drive texted me today that he just blew tires # 4-5 and wanted to trade-out of his. Having seen ACV, the move is probably to find a CPO and drive it until the warranty falls off.

Are the blown tires a road/driving issue or S90 tire issue? S90 is on my potential list either lease or CPO when my current one is one and wondering if that’s something I need to watch out for. I know they had brake issues in the past but those seem to be improved with the B models.

His has 21s with low profile ultra summer tires. I wouldn’t choose bigger shoes than 20s. My XC60 has 21s and I despise them, been looking for take-offs to swap for the rest or the lease.

Brakes don’t seem to be an issue anymore especially in mild/plug-in hybrids (regen). Plenty to worry about when it’s out of warranty, wheels are likely the only concern before 4y/48k

Also IMHO suggest skipping the loaners, the aggravation wasn’t worth it on my V60.

I had an S90 and it was a great car. Back in the days they were going for about $350 per month but that was 2017. Gosh this car has been around for some time. I still think back to it when I see them on the road.

I’m not sure I understand this comment. Costco Volvo incentive is gone at the end of this month, no? Or are you thinking it gets extended through Nov?

Yeah, not a fan of the 21s, we have them on our XC90 and ride is worse than 20s. Agree on the loaner suggestion too with recent 2 experiences not being great.

If experienced hackrs are not leasing them then that tells you everything. You’re correct that OP needs to go back to the drawing board and pick the right strategy

  1. Lease, return and lease again
  2. Buy new
  3. Buy used/CPO

Thanks for weighing in, everybody. Seems that even discontinued, this one isn’t hackable (or at least, not by me.)

  1. Make sure your Costco membership is current or sign up so…
  2. When/if there is Volvo Costco cash you are ready

I get that, just didn’t get the guidance of waiting for November for Costco. (Since it’s going on now until 10/31).

It’s not “going now“ on non-EV.
