Deal Check: 2025 Volvo S60 T8 Plus Lease

Hi there.

The threat of tariffs has gotten me spooked, so I’ve started looking for a new car before prices skyrocket. I’ve been interested in EVs, but I want to “try out” an EV with the backup of gas, don’t want to lock myself into buying, plus battery tech is evolving. So I thought of a PHEV, and want a sedan, so the S60 is basically the best option. I know they’re discontinued, so inventory is scarce. But let me know if this offer is reasonable or if I’m stupid:

2025 S60 T8 Plus, climate package, protection package, etc.
36 Month/ 7500 mi lease
.00211 MF
MSRP: $59,065
No discount
$9000 rebate ($7500 Volvo EV lease + $1000 Volvo 75th anniversary + $500 employer affinity)
54% RV
Only first months payment, taxes/fees included in monthly payment, etc.

They gave me $817 monthly payment. But putting it into the calculator, I can’t get to that number without adding insane dealer fees: Leasehackr Calculator - Hack your next lease | Leasehackr

They offered me a cash purchase price of $62,894. I was thinking of buying out the lease at the end if I really enjoy the car.

Am I missing something or am I getting screwed? How can I get a better deal (if it’s even possible)? Thanks for your advice and help in advance.

What are you seeing in the marketplace?

You should be aiming for a sizable discount on a car that is discontinued. Inventory will be on the lower side but one of brokers who had it before was showing nearly 11% discount and that’s before the incentives. Still would have put you at $700/month I think.

Unless there is a reason you love the S60, I would look to other cars at that payment point. Check out the XC60 if you really want a Volvo PHEV.

should look at an xc60 phev, as they lease better than an s60.

Hi Max, I’ll take a look, thanks for the tip.

Hi JSmith,

Yes, I was thinking that they should discount me too, at least 10%, so maybe I’ll have to go back to them with that. I think the discount you’re referencing was for a 24 MY, so that discount would be much more understandable.

I’d prefer the S60, as I’m not big on SUVs. Which puts me in a bad position in negotiations. Might just have to bite the bullet.

Thanks for the tips.

You’re looking at a car built in SC

This offer is stupid. Walk away and reset.

Check the Marketplace for S90 too

There are very few left out there. Customers who want a PHEV Volvo sedan will pay if they’re set on this particular car. No reason for a dealer to discount in my eyes.

OP is set on the S60 and knows he’s got a bad hand but he should still try for a discount. Surprisingly, one of the dealers with S60 T8s showing is popular and works with the LH crowd.

The premise doesn’t hold up to scrutiny on both counts.

  1. Pricing has come down in the last one month, not gone up. Apart from the impossibility of predicting which tariff threat gets imposed and which doesn’t: Supply seems to have exceeded demand for the first time since covid. Consumers don’t seem to have any bandwidth to pay higher prices.

  2. EV battery tech hasn’t meaningfully changed in the last few years and based on slashed R&D budgets it won’t change any time soon.

TLDR if you feel you must get a car get a hacked lease. Don’t do something as stupid as this S60 quote.

Yeah, with a significant number of parts made outside the US.

You’re probably right

Thanks everyone for the tips and advice. I think I’m going to have to recalibrate my expectations.

i can do an s60 phev at a fairly sizable discount if you’re flexible on colors / options.

Paying double the price today because you’re afraid of a potential future increase in 20% isn’t the most rational thing to do.

That’s not how tariffs work most of the time. Most components imported to manufacture the final product domestically are exempt.

And that’s why I’m asking the knowledgeable people here to make sure I"m not doing something completely stupid. And thankfully their advice has made me think twice. So I thank them for that.

That is not my understanding and not the understanding of what seems like virtually every news story covering this issue.

Hi @aronchi. I think we can work something out. What’s the best way to contact you?
