I agree ultimately the number doesn’t matter for a leasehackr.
Regardless, there’s about 5% of margin missing between the dealer’s WSD cost (net of holdback) and your math. Your mindset is being influenced where you actually believe the dealer’s margin is around 7% down from MSRP instead of 12-13% (before variable incentives or rebates or other trunk money).
So to me, the scam is working because they’ve invented a fake construct. and it could influence what a non leasehackr may perceive to be a fair discount to a dealership interested in operating in the long term and feed employee families.
