Bay Area here, with a quote lined up from a local dealer. Obviously I’m getting a little fleeced by what I understand is higher interest rates at the moment, choosing Prestige over Advanced and 15k miles, and not waiting until 2026 GV70’s are on the lot, but otherwise is this about as good as I’m going to be able to do?
MSRP: $76,605
Discount $3,500 (4.5%)
Sales Price: $73105
Months: 24
Miles Per Year: 15,000
Over-mile fee: $0.25/mi
Residual: 58% or $44,430 (Rate Findr)
Money Factor: .00252 (Rate Findr, other GV70 EV posts)
My Tax Rate: 9.875%
Incentives: $17,150
Doc Fee: $85
“Upfront charges”: $2,347
Down Payment: Zero down
Pre-Tax Monthly Payment: $914
Monthly Payment (incl tax): $1004
LH Calculator estimated Monthly Effective: $973
Current understanding:
Discount: Kind of weak, I proposed 7% on my sheet but they claimed “they are selling quickly” even though they have 6 Prestige and 24 Advanced sitting waiting to become irrelevant with the 2026 refresh (mid Q3?). I didn’t really push but should I?
Months: Would 36mo be better? Hard to say how long I’m going to be at my current job commuting
Miles Per Year: commuting every weekday, probably 18k-19k in total but I’m not 100% confident that that commuting will last for 24 months and I’m not that worried about self insuring
Money Factor: just bad timing I assume, but I need the car ASAP
Incentives: Seems alright, I’ve seen better
“Upfront charges”: They said something something taxes and fees so maybe that’s why my calculator doesn’t match up?
Monthly Payment (incl tax): Lot of money but zero down for the total loss protection
LH Calculator estimated Monthly Effective: The difference is just the cost of doing business in the real world…?
Thanks in advance for all help and apologies for any mistakes in my post, first time
$1000 a month for an EV with limited range? This thing goes less than 200 miles on a full charge on the highway. How far is your commute? You are going to spend a long amount of time hooked to a DC fast charger, but at least it charges quickly. Leasing a vehicle knowing you are going to drive in excess of the mileage is not usually a good idea either. You might be better off leasing a Porsche Macan at a lower payment.
I’m not too worried about it since gas is quite expensive in my area and my home electricity rate is very low, so topping it off each night shouldn’t be an issue. Weekends I can drive over to the 350kW Electrify America charger near by and charge while I watch a YouTube video or two or run errands and charge for free, so overall I don’t foresee it being a hassle. It’s honestly equally as inconvenient as going to the gas station once a week with a gas car now.
Commute is 37mi each way with lots of stop and go plus EV gets express lane/carpool lane perks. As much as a Porsche would be awesome, I don’t believe there is anything under 100k gas or electric that is as pillowy and comfortable as this GV70. Any well handling car will be completely wasted in stop and go traffic, and I really appreciate the silence of the Genesis.
I agree, but the problem is there are not many 2024s left and only a few 2025s sitting on dealer lots. OP seems to be set on Genesis brand, so he is going to pay to play. Hey, at least the 2025 model now has wireless car play!
@ab21827 are you set on this vehicle and only this vehicle? This is a bad price to pay for this car. What is your target deal and best case based on what you’ve seen on this forum, and how does that compare to similar EVs?
I’m set on this feature set which seems to have limited me to GV70 Prestige or something much farther up for a german brand equivalent. Favorite features are:
Dual motor (429 hp)
Tow hitch for MTB rack
ACC with steering assist
super plush suspension
Great noise isolation from the road
Napa leather interior
HUD
Fast charging
Free charging at Electrify America
Not a Tesla
Doesn’t look like an insect
Doesn’t have a big iPad in the middle
I’m mildly confident if I went down to the Advanced trim it could half my lease payment, but for various reasons I’m not interested.
From what I understand, the MB competition (which seems to be the primary competition for luxury SUV EV right now) has a much higher MSRP and dealers seem to mostly be discounting the sedans and not the SUV’s. I also assume they are not going to want to part with something a step up like an EQS Maybach without multiple appendages in return. I also just hate how the MB EQ line looks, but they obviously are far superior dynamically especially at the limit. Again, that is not the use case for this vehicle as this is not my only car. I’m happy to look at other vehicles that have at least most of these options, but having all of them will really aid my intended use, obviously for a price.
Mostly I’m interested in knowing if there appears to be any wiggle room that I am yet to exploit in this deal, but I am interested to know if I have missed any alternative vehicles/deals in my search.
Why not a Polestar 3? Most of these features are included in the Polestar 3 and who cares about free EA charging if you’re saving like $200/month. iPad is the only negative in the Polestar for you. And as someone in the Bay Area, if you’re commuting that much, you should finance a car, not lease, but up to you.
So you like that particular car . Great choice if it fits all your needs. You did deep research. I’m not sure why the price needs to be discussed here . Either you shop the car or the payment.
Just my $0.02.
Please do correct me if I’m wrong, but my impression of the Polestar’s were that they are more targeted at the most luxurious end of the economy car market rather than the most economical of the plush luxury vehicle market. I haven’t tested it, but I would be shocked if the Polestar was as isolated from the road and the noise as the Genesis as far as my understanding goes. I thought that Polestar had dedicated a little more towards the driving dynamics by giving up a little in the plush luxury category.
I think most AWD EVs will have equivalent or more. I suspect power will not be an issue with any choice in this segment.
I really wouldn’t look at this as a feature, its a cost savings which can be quantified. You can put a $$ amount in savings on it, and use it as a point of comparison (e.g. this saves me additional $x / month or during lease vs another competitor).
Which of these features is the ZDX missing (or even lyriq)? esp the type s with air suspension if you’re indexing on ride quality.
Yes, those two in particular are not deal breakers. Again I haven’t test driven ZDX or Lyriq but I have to say that the damping in particular on the GV70 is extremely difficult to beat. They intentionally sacrified on the dynamics and selected adjustable springs and dampers instead of air suspension which means it never wobbles like an MB (which I’m most familiar with). I don’t know if the plushness can really be compared simply by comparing features as it seems to be the particular material choice and damping tune that really makes the car stand above the less luxury focused EV’s in the segment. All the youtube review and stuff I watched seem to echo this sentiment that the car is very compromised in driving dynamics but all that sacrifice goes towards an extremely plush ride.
Yes, this is more or less the sanity check to make sure that I did reasonably considering all my (obviously mildly unreasonable) constraints. Just wanted to see if any of you wise sages had any wisdom for me at the final hurdle.
You should drive the Polestar 3 before coming to that conclusion. From what I’ve seen and heard, the Polestar 3 is a pretty comfortable car that does well in terms of NVH. You’d have to drive it to see whether it meets your standard. I don’t see why you need to jump into the GV70 without testing other cars first.
CAV decal program is slated to expire on Sep 30 this year unless federal gov grants any extension. Given the current administration’s aversion to EVs, it’s unlikely any extension will be granted.
Many of these suggestions are great for someone with a less specific use case, but I don’t want to commute in a truck, I much prefer the traditional luxury interior on the genesis to the modern attempts of the Germans at the moment (why they ever veered from a winning formula I will never understand) and my commute doesn’t have any carpool lanes, only fasttrak express lanes. Main reason for electric car is smoothness and composure in stop and go traffic as well as free charging/particularly cheap charging at home. To be clear, I absolutely would not recommend the GV70 EV to anyone who is less particular about their vehicle or who needs a more all purpose vehicle, but for many reasons including those I’ve already shared and a few that I won’t share, the GV70 EV is 100% the best option for me. Have to baby it a little on faster highway turns and in the rain, but absolutely perfect in all other parts of my commute and I couldn’t be happier!
