Deal Check: 2024 Sub Outback Onyx 36/12K

,

I received the following today:

I’m assuming the price issue is the 9.26% off MSRP. Invoice from JDPower is listed at $33,812. As of now selling price is $952 above invoice.

The only part of this that is not making sense to me is that when I plug every value exactly the same as the Lease Worksheet onto the Leasehackr calculator I get $454/month instead of $493.21…

If I remember correctly… every $1,000 in the price is equivalent to roughly $30 on the monthly payment, yes? The dealer installed package amounts to $861.

There’s still a $500 to $600 different in vehicle price that I can’t put my finger on… Could it be that they are adding GAP even though Subaru leases already include GAP? AM I overanalyzing the deal?

Please advise and thank you in advance!

Your tax selection is incorrect. TX taxes the sales price, not monthly payment.

From the window sticker, those don’t look like dealer installed options.

Noted… any other insight?

Subarus are typically great cars to purchase and terrible to lease.

Hi @max_g, would you mind sharing why they are terrible to lease? How about this offer in particular?

By definition a car that has been leased has to be returned and then you need another vehicle. So if you replace this lease with another lease in three years time, then you will have made almost $36,000 in lease payments over six years … for a car selling for $34,xxx plus tax.

The equity outcomes in the two scenarios are extremely lopsided. It becomes more if you project further and trade that owned Subaru in for the tax savings, vs none on the leased one.

I figured out the discrepancy with the calculator amount. Those of us in TX need to click instead of keeping it on the top option:

Thank you
