$30,000 to $40,000 difference
Whoa, your dealership ops team listed on CarGurus an almost-fully-loaded^ 2024 GLS 450 in MANUFAKTUR (must be all caps for trademark purposes) Alpine Grey for MSRP! Does this mean your dealership is selling the car at MSRP?
^ this car needs the 22" AMG Line wheels not the 21". Weak.
Thanks all for the thoughtful replies. For reference, I went down the cargurus, edmunds, etc rabbit hole and contacted dealers who supposedly have MY2024 inventory and in every single instance it was the BS line of “it just sold, but come on in and lets talk!” or “it just sold, do you want to order one?”
As far as those websites go, for this MY2024 truck at least, they are simply marketing tools for Customer leads - the dealers dont have the cars in my experience over the last couple of weeks looking for this truck.
To clarify, I am talking about the MY2024 GLS450 and yes, those have just started landing at Dealers over the last 2-3 weeks. If we pull the trigger, this would be my Wifes 7th MB GL/GLS, we just turned in a 2022 GLS450 lease (lemon’d) and folks are correct - its hard to beat this 3-row German truck.
My fear on the purchasing the truck versus leasing it is being left holding the out of warranty “maintenance bag” - a certain luxury (and I realize with these lease $$ numbers we are certainly paying for it) exists when you can just walk away without further headache.
So the bottom line here seems to be, this is a fair deal all things considered and if she wants the truck, we should go ahead and do the deal. Decisions, decisions…
The MY2024 does have wireless Apple Carplay, grill is a little different (more upright/less bars), 450 has more HP and same TQ as MY2023 - few other tweaks.
If you buy the gls you can trade it in before you are out of warranty
OP, you can go the purchase route and add the extended warranty at time of purchase. I leased my first GL550 back in 2011 (2012 model, last year for X164) with very little discount and lease was terrible. I ordered and bought a 2014 outright, along with an MB extended warranty. I am still driving it (2nd car - almost 10 years and not yet 30K miles). Will eventually replace with a new GLS (another purchase), while always trying to hack my second car.
Yes, we are at MSRP and we are only selling to locals. Restriction for out of state
You can extend the warranty or get into a cycle of trading in a financed GLS every 4 years instead of returning a lease every 3 years.
The microcosm of comparing a 3yr lease against a 3yr finance doesn’t look all that great because that one initial tax on purchase is higher. Once you look at cycles that benefit from the tax shield of trading in, the tax advantage of leasing goes away. NTM acq fee every time.
Without running any kind of in-depth numbers, it should be obvious no one in their right mind should be paying $200,000+ to drive GLS450s for the next 9 years.
Even worse if we think about a cycle of 7 vehicles
That’s a nice car man. Even has the second row sun shades and a heated steering wheel. Really don’t know why they did the 21" instead of 22" though.
BTW, whoever on the ops side that takes dealer photos during PDI needs to lay off the meth. Half of the interior shots are blurry, crooked, or just completely half-assed. Like a high school kid would normally do better than this lol.
LMAO, jeez tell us how you really feel
Haha, I just want them to get top dollar on that GLS.
That’s what you understood from telling someone to finance a car rather than leasing?
Is the third row actually usable in the GLS?
Correct, but the chances of getting the highest trade in value from the same dealer giving you a great deal on the new car is far from guaranteed.
Yes, absolutely
You don’t have to. You go for the best net deal.
Such an exceedingly low bar to not blow $200k over 9 years.
I’m 6 feet and I can sit back there with my kid in a car seat (edit: next to me). I wouldn’t want to be back there for 5 hours, but it’s usable.
However, make sure you option to get 3rd row HVAC if you plan on having people back there often. Edit, Mercedes calls it “5-Zone Climate Control” to get HVAC vents for the 3rd row.
It’s September 2021 in MB world. If I were you I would stay away from MB for now, you may regret soon if you lease it for what they are asking. The numbers are not sustainable, very soon there will be ton of these cars on the market. Once MB feels the pinch of high rates and layoffs start bringing current buyers/owners/lessors down things will start to change, it will be like the housing market in 2009, after hyperinflated bubble. And you will be stuck with $1,700/mo payments and nowhere to go. But if $1700 is a small change to you and you make twice that amount every day, then by all means get it and have fun. I personally would go for fully loaded Cayenne if I wanted to spend serious money on the car. Best of luck to you.
Anybody laid eyes in the Land-rover-esque 7 seater Hyundai Santa Fe?
