Trying to source a 2024 GLS450 in the 7-passenger configuration for lease in the New Jersey / New York City / Philly Metro Area.
I am finding many dealers in the NYC/Philly Metro are advertising cars they don’t have and when they do have them, many have been spec’d with the 6-passenger captain seat configuration which is a deal-breaker for us, we need the extra seats! Or worse, they wont confirm price/availability and ‘want you to come in’!!
Additionally, I’ve found that some of the NYC dealers are still asking over MSRP on the GLS450 and pretty much all of them have the “take it or leave it” mentality. Is it 9/2021 or 9/2023?
Here’s what we’ve been offered from a NJ MB Dealer:
Model = GLS450
MSRP/SALE Price = MSRP/Sale same, no discount = ~$97k
TERM = 36 month / 15k miles per year
MF = 0.00335
Residual = 55%
First month, NJ taxes, dealer fees, etc due COD = ~$8k
Monthly Payment, no MSDs = ~$1720/month
Obviously they are making some on the MF as it should be 0.0029 on that term/vehicle with the Tier A1 credit from MBFS, thats leaving something like $60-$70/month on the table if my assumptions are correct.
What do you say fellow Hackers?
Is this just the market realities of getting a facelifted 2024 GLS with the current supply/demand and all around availability?
Or is this the situation where if you want the car, you’re going to have to ‘pay to play’?
Or should I just acknowledge this is a terrible deal and run far, far away?
What is a good deal relative to this car is not going to be a good deal in general. If you want this car, you’re probably paying sticker. It’s a slap in the face to pay a MF markup at sticker, but as you’ve found out, the market for this car is rough.
Those areas dealers are the worst imo, wont give you a break. Check out dealers in Virginia, Maryland; from my experience they have given me better deals. Tri state Benz dealers sells a lot whereas small town Benz dealers doesn’t so the small towners will work for your business.
Where is this idea of getting the discount on the GLS? Like where was this originate from?
People are not getting discount on it. It is a major export vehicle and the dealers all over country are asking for mark up
I’ll bet there’s a demo or retired loaner out there that a dealer will discount. Problem is OP is looking for a specific spec so that limits his options.
Out of 350+ dealerships in the country, you are going so far as to speak in absolute terms that not a single one of them would so much as discount the car by $500?
Ah sorry no I didn’t realize we were discussing a 24… I don’t think I’ve even seen a 24 GLS in person. But I know dealers that have 2023 active loaners. Was just offered one from Rallye.
For this car, there isn’t much you can do than this deal, unless you are ok with taking any base spec and loaner. This car is pure shit to lease, so if you’re aiming for a good lease deal, this car isn’t it. If you really want a GLS, then financing this car is better because it’s definitely worth more than whatever they’re saying it is post 3 years.
Did you actually make the calculation before giving this suggestion?
If yes, could you please share your numbers?
(FYI the MMR for a 2021 with 45k miles is around $50k with the used market still inflated.)
Also, did you take into account the extra sales tax OP would lose if it’s a finance?
Not much of a discount on the X7 either, seems like that’s just the market for 3 row German trucks these days. Also the X7 is awful looking, If it was down to just those 2 I completely understand why people want the GLS instead.
