Deal Check: 2023 C40 Recharge Ultimate and XC40 Recharge Ultimate PNW

Contacted @autocompanion for a quote on these vehicles, but he said shipping from DC to Washington state would negate any discount they offer.

So I took the discount from their s/s, looked up rates and incentives via ratefindr, and emailed a local dealer for their best offer. I had to edit the discount percent to match the payment amount on his quote. Planning to shop these quotes to the other 2 Volvo dealers in Wa state to see if they can compete.

Do these numbers look right based on the quote sheets?

2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric Twin eAWD Ultimate
MSRP: 61,850
Selling price: 54,768
Discount: 11.45%
36/7500
Residual 49%: 30,307
MF: .00111
Taxed Incentives: ratefindr shows 7500 EV bonus and 2500 VCFS lease bonus, but he’s only included 7500, plus 500 affinity (pen fed). Here is his comment on the discount field: In regard to the $2,500, our pencils include any lease cash in the discount field, so the $2,500 is part of the $8,000 discount on the XC40.

The 3-yr Permaplate protection has already been applied to the vehicles by our detail shop. It was accounted for with the dealer discount I applied.

Monthly pmt w/tax: 711.34 w/DAS capitalized
Monthly pmt w/tax: 600.00 + $3,521 DAS w/fees/taxes/etc paid up front

@28firefighter tagging you since you’re local and understand the deals in Wa state. Any feedback is appreciated.

Volvo Seattle and Volvo Bellevue are owned by the same group and frequently share internet sales folks. If you’ve emailed one, you’ve emailed both. Save yourself the hassle.

Volvo Tacoma is the only dealer I know of that will occasionally deal.

I’d be astonished if any of them do better than what you’ve been quoted. When I reached out a couple months ago when rebates were crazy, they didn’t budge from MSRP so this already looks better than that. Not to say it can’t happen and you do better, but…just be prepared. Also, that $800 permaplate is garbage. That’s another 1+% of your discount gone.

Also be aware Western WA has crazy high registration fees because of RTA tax and an EV gets tagged with an additional $250 EV fee. Basically you lose 2% of your discount to registration alone.

so effectively they took back $2500+$799. the VCFS, if available at your location, should be yours. if not, you just reduce the discount to match.

What does “look right” mean here? There are other, better deals on EVs right now so I don’t think either Volvo is even worth the effort of negotiating

Why chase the Volvo deals if your local dealer is asking for almost double the better regions? As a C40 owner there’s absolutely nothing about this car worth pursuing without deep discounts

They’re faking the discount by including a rebate and forcing you some BS dealer add on. That’s an easy walk away

Max - I meant was I calculating his numbers correctly on the calculator.

I’m sure there are better EV deals on cars with the bells and whistles that these ones. The Mazda CX90 PHEV is too big, Mercedes EQE is out of my budget, and I’m not a Tesla fan. I haven’t researched Honda or Toyota EV deals to see what features are available on their models. I’ll keep doing my research. I appreciate your feedback.

Thank you. These quotes are from Volvo Tacoma. Checking with Lynnwood and Sea/Bellevue tomorrow.

I forgot about Sandberg even though that’s my closest dealer. They’re still a small, family owned store - never seen a discount from them…

Ariya, Niro, Ioniq 5 and 6, etc are all leasing much better than this AFAIK.

With these numbers I guess you could just get a BMW i4? Much nicer car IMO.

I’m in the Seattle area and shopping the same vehicles. I was getting a bit better deals back in June. Best I got was around 13K off including all incentives on an xc40 recharge plus trim.

My Seattle dealership experiences:
Seattle/Bellevue (Swickard group) most reasonable to deal with. The Seattle Volvo sales people are more laid back.
Tacoma never called me back
Sandberg - lamest sales experience i.e. worst deal with worst sales people. I say this as someone who bought from them in the past

Best dealership experience and price I found was Herzog-Meier Volvo in Portland. They seem eager to deal and are seem nice to deal with. You might try give them a try. California seems to have even better deals though.

I’ve put my purchase on hold for now because:

  1. Car is already dated tech and only worth 40K to me
  2. There are better EVs in the pipeline.
  3. Deals around Seattle are not that great - jealous of what they get on the east coast
  4. As others have mentioned there are much better lease hacks in other brands -Base i4 is a similar deal with better leases
  5. Much improved 2024s should be on the lots soon
  6. Brokers don’t seem to want to deal with people in Seattle
  7. I have a reservation for a Fisker Ocean

I plan to check back in in Sept/Oct as the 2024s arrive and see if I can score a deal on a leftover 2023. 40K is what I consider the right price and oh well if it doesn’t work out.

Good luck!
