Looking to get a gut check from the community on a potential lease takeover deal.
Here are the details:
Car: 2023 BMW XM Location: Currently in Michigan – seller has agreed to cover shipping to California Miles: ~14,000 miles Lease Term Remaining: 28 months Mileage Allowance: 1,000 miles/month (so ~28,000 miles remaining) Monthly Payment: $1,325/month (includes 6% Michigan tax) Transfer Fee: TBD, assuming standard BMW FS transfer fee Incentive: Seller is not asking for any cash upfront – just wants to get out of the lease
The seller says the car is in great condition and is looking to move quickly. The payment seems solid considering where XM leases have been historically, especially with taxes included and no upfront cost or down payment. The only thing worth noting is that the front tires are very worn and need to be replaced soon and there is some light curb rash on the rims.
A few questions:
Anyone have experience taking over a BMW FS lease across state lines (MI to CA)?
Will I be on the hook for CA use tax once it’s transferred here?
Any gotchas I should be aware of with BMW lease transfers?
Would love to hear any thoughts or red flags. Appreciate the help as always!
Honestly doesnt matter to me at all. I enjoyed the 8.5 on the i7 cause your having a relaxed ride but on the XM your just driving it like any other M car. Maybe its just me lol
So I have iDrive 8.0 and have used 8.5 on an i7, i5 and i4 loaners. I have to say the hype over 8.5 over 8.0 is not worth it, especially on a short term lease.
8.0 is fine. In fact, I prefer it in some ways. For example, climate control is more intuitive to me with 8. I also think it’s a bit simpler to find things.
8.5 is a little snappier, but 8.0 is not terrible.
One of the main differences is the availability of Highway Assistant with 8.5. HA gives you handsfree highway driving up to 85 mph, so long as you’re staring ahead. If you take your eyes away, the nanny nags at you. A bit annoying. You also get automatic lane changes.
8.0 is limited to hands free up to 40 mph. Above 40, you have to keep a finger on the steering wheel. Honestly, I like to rest my hand on the wheel anyway, so not a dealbreaker.
I use CarPlay, and it’s perfectly fine in either.
If one is just driving this for 2 years till the lease is up, the differences between 8 and 8.5 should make zero difference. Just F-ing drive this beast and enjoy it. Focus less on the screen!
Couldn’t agree more regarding the climate. They overcomplicated climate in 8.5. It shouldn’t be so hard to figure out air flow speed and default settings/etc. It was like they were looking for a solution to a problem that didn’t exist.
