Just placed a custom order on a GLC 300 4Matic here in Maryland (DC area). Since it is a custom order, I have some time to play with (and the ability to walk away in-case the dealer tries to pull a fast one). In my experience MB doesn’t go beyond 12-12.5% off MSRP, but I did get close.
Let me know your thoughts, I was an idiot not asking for MF to see if they were marking it up, especially for someone like me who leases a new car every 18 months. Clarification: I pass off the vehicle to another family member (whether through a formal lease transfer process, keeping my name on or the family member doing handing me a check for the payoff). We do musical chairs with leases in my family once I get tired of the vehicle.
48 months/12k miles per year
MSRP: 47,385 (inc. Destination)
Selling: 42,715
No MSDs
First payment + $500 due at signing
Monthly Payment: $524 (including the horrible sales tax in this state)
I do not like to tie up my cash with MSD’s, that is just a preference of mine. My question is, in case the dealer tries to change the payment upon delivery, should I convert the $500 DAS into one MSD? Would that work out better? Or would it barely make a difference? I have a feeling, I got a good deal, but not the very best. Let me know your thoughts, even if it only answers one point of my post. Thank you all! I have been following this page for years but finally decided to sign-up for an account!
At the very least you need to go Edmunds and confirm the current base MF, RV, and any incentives for your zip code. Then, input everything into the calculator to see what the deal really looks like.
On the surface you’re getting almost 10% discount which is decent, however the dealer most likely has incentives rolled into that, meaning your true pre-incentive discount is probably closer to 7-9%. If the MF is also marked up then it’s even less.
Once you get the calculator set up, you can then play around with all the inputs such as DAS and MSDs. Putting 1 MSD ($500) on a $47k car with a competitive MF isn’t likely to move the needle at all, just FYI.
What do you mean tries to change payment? Won’t stick to agreed numbers? I would have just walked. Don’t bother with 1 MSD. If dealer tries to play games, and numbers during sign aren’t what we agreed on, I walk.
I agree, if they change, then I walk. Even if it is a small amount. Since the car is about 6-8 weeks out, they cannot draw up a preliminary lease contract with current December bank offers. I made sure to get the commitment to the payment in writing so it is not totally based on verbal conversations. I have gone through this before, where I place an order for a car that is 4-6 weeks out and they cannot formally draw up a contract until they know what month the car is arriving. Hope that makes sense.
Look, that’s not what I meant sorry, if I wasn’t clear. Don’t deal in absolutes, be reasonable. New car, mistakes happen, if its 5 dollars a month mistake and they seem honest about it and trying to work it out - it’s different from “yo, we forgot to tell you it’s gonna be $1000 more in DAS, take it or leave it”.
Of course. Small amounts within reason, small is subjective. $5-$10 I am not going to throw a fit. I’ll try to keep them on track to what they promised, but I am reasonable.
