Deal check: 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited

Hi all, this is my first post here as a lurker. I’ve been looking for my first lease for a week or so. Here it is:

YMM: 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited
MSRP: $36,765
Price after rebates: $29,005
Down payment: $0
Monthly: $403
DAS: $403 (only first month payment)
Mileage: 12k/yr
Term: 36mon
Residual: 56%
MF: 0.00138
Tax rate: 10%

Now, I plugged in the numbers in the calculator but could not come up with the same monthly payment as the one they quoted. Either I am missing something or theres so hidden fees going on. Per dealership, govt fee, doc fee, and acquisition fee is included in the total price (after rebate). Is this normal? I thought you pay that upfront? Do you think theres some more room for the selling price to go down from the current rebated price? Let me know guys thanks!
According to Edmunds forum, this car should have $4k lease cash and $1k bonus cash plus $500 first responder incentive (stackable)

You can do better

What is the pre-incentive discount they are giving you? What is your goal price for the deal? What pre-incentive discount do you need to get you to that payment?

@AA-NJ, if he isn’t charging over sticker :upside_down_face: has good Hyundai pricing

Good Deal on Sonata Hybrid Limited. I have them for around this price. Sonata Limited (not Hybrid) would cost the same.

Dealer is discounting the car to sell it to you at this price!

You won’t find anything better equipped with better gas mileage for the price. The self-parking feature (the one that works with no one in the drivers seat) is nuts.

And @HersheySweet, all my Hyundais are now listed WELL below sticker… and prices will only be going down… except the $92/month car for NJ residents. My only car with dealer markup is the cheapest “Total Lease Cost” car on this whole site. I can live with that.

If you post a link to your calculator, we can help identify what’s going wrong.

Man, trying to get numbers out of these dealers is like pulling teeth. Some of these dealers are almost unresponsive when I mention leasing. I am hoping to get it below $29k, you think it’ll be tough?

I get closer if I separate out the incentives so they’re taxed, but still off

Offer from RODO.

I wish we had RODO here in WA :frowning: but thank you for the comparison!

Time to move on if they are unresponsive.

But don’t get into the weeds with an average salesperson. They’ve never been trained to understand lease calculators and they’ve been told to never bother the higher ups. Make an offer based on your own research

The salespeople can go to the GM with a concrete offer of something like “$X per month with $Y DAS” including your relevant details like city or zip for tax purposes and whether you’re eligible for any specific rebates beyond the universal lease cash such as first responder, college grad, etc.

If they go to the GM with questions like “the customer wants to know the MF we’re using” over and over again they are probably going to get a paperweight thrown at them.

If you are in NJ you need to click on the middle tax button and put in your actual tax, not 10%

Also did you check on Edmunds Forums to find out what automatic incentives there are

Based on what? Have you ever leased a Hyundai?

I have a current Hyundai lease and just signed up for another one.

Great, then you should know that there is not a huge margin on these cars, and it’s not easy to get a huge dealer discount without an extraordinary amount of time on the buyer’s part.

On this car, there’s $1280 between MSRP and Invoice, and $100 worth of backend, and maybe another $200 maximum to the salesman if they are hitting a quota.

That’s about a maximum spread of 4.2% potential dealer discount before the dealer is truly losing money in every direction to sell you the car. As far as I can tell, OP’s deal is already below the line, and that’s where I’d call it a good deal.

Can you be more specific?

I am in Washington state and the tax rates range from 10%-10.4%. According to Edmunds forums, the incentives are $4000 lease cash and $1000 bonus cash. Are these considered taxable rebates/incentives?

Sorry got you confused with the NJ dealer. Wow 10% and I thought New York at 8.75 was bad.

I actually have no idea whether they are taxable. My assumption is yes but there are incentives that are not plus it may vary by state. I would ask on Edmunds

Okay, so update time.
Here is the final deal I am signing:
$348/m (post tax)
$0 due at signing
