Deal Advice: Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring

Hi everyone! My parents are looking to BUY a 2020 or 2021 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring. Which has an MSRP of ~30k. I know this forum is specifically for leasing, but I have never bought a car before so I thought it may be best to ask you guys before I get destroyed on the sale.

I got quoted $430 with 3k down and 1.9% APR for 72 Months. But, I just check on Honda’s own website and it said with 3k down 1.9% APR my monthly payment should only be $409. So, I’m very lost and don’t know what to do. The most important thing for me is knowing what a fair deal for this car is. I know if I leave it to my parents they’ll go and pay the first offered price and we certainly can’t afford that. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If you think any other vehicles may be a better option please let me know. They’re only requirement is that it has leather seats.

Honda’s website likely doesn’t include taxes and fees…

As with a lease, the monthly payment is just the output of the equations. You need to figure out all the correct inputs.

The price I was quoted was before taxes

What numbers do you get when you calculate the monthly payment based on target pre-incentive discounts and the current financing programs?

I’m sorry mllcb I really don’t understand ):

You’re going to the dealer and asking them how much they want you to pay. Don’t do that.

You need to figure out what deal you’re trying to get. How can you negotiate a good deal if you haven’t worked out what a good deal is?

That means looking at comparable deals and figuring out a target pre-incentive discount, then plugging in the current finance programs, taxes and fees into a loan calculator to see what your target deal when financed at 1.9% for 72 months actually costs.

From there, you have something you can actually compare against the dealer’s offer.

Thank you so much I understand now. My only issue is finding other people’s deals on this car so I don’t know what a fair price is. I guess I can just haggle till I can’t anymore.

We have a great shred deal section as well as plenty of broker offers to gain some insight into pre-incentive discount targets from. Doesn’t matter if it’s a purchase or a lease if you’re going pre-incentive.

Think you could save a lot of money going with a Civic sedan EXL or Hyundai Elantra Limited

Not opposed to getting an exl sedan at this point.

If your parents want a nice interior and don’t care about sportiness, they could look at the new 2020+ Sentra SV with premium package. Arguably the nicest seats in the segment.

LED headlights also help avoid accidents vs halogens in many cars in that segment

Also it doesn’t hurt to check RODO app.
I found some great deals for cars similar to Honda

Civic.

Tbf those are financing deals. No idea if they could be better though
