Cracked windshield replacement

Hi all, I leased a '20 Corolla about 6 months ago and got a windshield crack due to a rock chip that is now multiple cracks in the windshield. Is the only option to get it replaced by a Toyota dealership or can I go to safelite or someone similar without it being an issue at the end of the lease? I searched thru the forum but didn’t find a clear response. I’m in OC in Socal. Appreciate any help.

You can request Safelite to use OEM glass, but it may take a few extra days and will likely cost additional. You typically can’t return leases with aftermarket (OEE) glass from my experience.

“Our customers can choose OEM or OEE prior to service by calling 877-664-8931

Safelite has significant discounts through Costco (at least for repairs; worth checking for replacement).

When my leased Audi had a windshield crack a few yers ago, I had it replaced by a local independent shop. They used Audi glass OEM glass, which my insurance company had to approve. Since there was no aftermarket glass available, there was no problem with getting approval. No problems at lease turn in.

How does that work? Thru the Costco auto program or just let safelite know that I’m a Costco member?

^ that code should do the trick!

Call around, don’t bother with OEM, that almost guarantees you’ll get another crack. Locally I found that Safelite is overpriced, they have been buying out other companies and attempting to brain wash everyone with their advertising that they are great. I found a local company with lower prices and better service.

I don’t know what you’re talking about… We all know Safelite repair, Safelite replace.

Thx all. Much appreciated. :black_heart:

I just called the number shown in @DG-X5 ’ screenshot to make the appointment.

I used Safelite once on a walk-in basis and they repaired a chip for ~$145. When I made an appointment for a different vehicle using that phone number, it was ~$95.

I don’t have windshields repaired often enough to know if this is competitive with other choices.

Thanks for this. Took a trip to Maryland today and had to drive through a virtual gravel trap on a particular section of 95. I squirmed in my seat every time I heard something hit the car, and sure enough I got a chip on the Gladiator windshield. Gonna have to give the Costco number and promo code a shot when I get back, unless someone else knows an NJ based independent place that is trustworthy and beats Safelite prices!
