Couch hackers…?

I say a group of us LH’s get together and help with this new couch… maybe party on Jim’s balcony lol.

Having said that, here is my contribution:

Same one as you from Costco – Sereen 6-piece Fabric Modular Sectional, Taupe

Got it on sale for $600 off, delivered. Absolutely love it.

I’m pretty impressed with LaZBoy’s modular pieces. Run over to your local LaZBoy store, pick the model and fabrics, then order through an independent retailer in NC. You’ll save a nice chunk even when factoring for delivery. Only issue is that it could take 2-3 months to get.

Shoot me a PM if you go that route and need a furniture store contact in NC.

They’ve actually closed almost all of the Macy’s home stores in the area here.

Please don’t buy RTG garbage.

Yes, absolutely nothing seems to last these days.

Hate to break it to you but the rents in West Miami and Broward are really not much better.

Is that on Biscayne? Looks similar to a building I used to live in right by Bayside.

As far as sofas, Reddit is a surprisingly good resource:

Exactly the point, nothing is built to last so get it from whereever lol. We have RTG leather couch on 4th year with my kids literally treating it as a trampoline every day and its still in great condition.
Every store has some furniture that turns out to be garbage btw lol.

Really? Didn’t know… we still have them on the west coast. Pretty sad the overall state of brick-n-mortar retail these days…

We’re close the Costa Mesa (South Coast Plaza) Macys Home Store which is 3 stories. It has been shrinking in inventory over the last decade. Still lots of choices in this area, Pottery Barn with commercial grade fabrics are good, Crate & Barrel we don’t have luck with a feather filled cushion couch. Restoration Hardware is near by, but way overpriced and made for huge homes.

Restoration Hardware Cloud sofa…be careful you will fall asleep just about every time you sit on it.

Fair enough. I’d rather get a couch off the side of the road than deal with RTG ever again.

Not just furniture.

Its worse than I thought. I just checked and there isn’t a single Macys Furniture standalone store in all of Florida. There literally aren’t any stores north of Ocala, which is more than disconcerting.

Order any of the couches on Costco, especially the cheap (but well-made) Thomasville ones as they are so cheap you can keep it for 2-3 years and give it to charity or leave it out to get stolen/picked up street side. You can also send it back as well and there is no charge to be picked up via freight usually the same way it was delivered without a restocking fee:

Most of the Ashley stuff is overpriced although decent quality, and you can go into an Ashley showroom and find what you like then Google the collection and find a retailer/wholesaler that will have the same thing for 1/2 of the price or less. Should be tons of those shady furniture places in South Florida that buy that stuff from Ashley and others for nothing (closeout or otherwise) and sell it at pretty good prices.

The best places for killer deals like that are those where you can buy it off the floor (for cash), they offer “buy here, pay here,” parking is sketchy during the day (and at night you may get killed), they also are selling puppies inside and/or the $199 Bahamas cruises, and there is a food truck out front. Don’t do delivery, rent or borrow a trailer.

YMMV

HomeSense fantastic and West Elm outlet can be great if you are ok with some damage.

I have no idea anymore cause it was only stocked for a short period before the product page was taken down. I tried checking my purchase history but doesn’t seem to go back far enough.

I had the same Sereen and returned it because the low back wasn’t comfy when sitting up. Great as a daybed tho. Got a cheap leather recliner sectional from bobs as a stop gap but it’s been holding up well.

Really? we hate it. With kids it’s always a mess. Always needs to be fluffed. I weigh like 180 lbs and if I sit or lay on it after 20 mins I feel like all the stuffing moves to the sides and I’m sitting on wood.

I just got another one delivered and it’s the opposite. Super firm, looking for a happy medium that I’m not sure I’ll find at Costco. I’m willing to keep trying as long as they’re willing to keep delivering them haha

Not a fan of the deep couches like that for a living room. That’s like a basement couch and the day I spend $12k on a couch…

We recently bought a new set of bedroom furniture from Restoration Hardware’s outlet store, and it was a good deal for the quality of the product. They had plenty of couches on display in their showroom too.

+1 as long as you have the patience to check their stock regularly when they get new merchandise a couple times a week and sort through what is quality discontinued stuff that has come over brand new from the warehouse vs what has already been heavily abused and then returned and/or damaged in transit, etc. (and everything in between).

For some of their merchandise they are really looking to move it has a special tag and gets reduced further after every X days it sits unsold and if they have sufficient inventory, you are willing to chance it and/or you put your finger on the scale with the manager to mark it down further outside of the regular schedule, you can make out quite well - at least as a % off of the very inflated retail price.

The primary inconvenience in my mind is you are 100% responsible for taking it home yourself or getting it delivered by a third party contractor that you deal directly with and it’s unsurprisingly all sales final.

I bought a leather sofa from macys before covid. Maybe sat on it 5 times in 2 years since it was in the front room. My gf moved in with a cat and I didn’t want it to get messed up. Ended up selling it for $300 more than I paid for it.

The section we use is from front room. It’s probably 8 years old now. A few years ago I ordered new foam cushions because the old ones were worn out. They’ve held up pretty good so far.

The cats ruined the recliners I have and they smell now.
I need something cheap to replace it with to last 1-year. An L-shaped one, three seater would be ideal.

Have had a flexsteel digby leather sectional since 2021. Right after we ordered there was some kind of foam backorder from their texas plant, but it’s been great. I find it very comfortable and has held up to dogs and kids. I even get a lot of compliments from my uppity North Jersey inlaws whenever they sit on it so take that for what it’s worth.
