Today I was about to sign a lease for a Volvo and at the last second the deal was killed because the dealership said that my Costco card is registered with a NJ address (my business) and I am registering the car in NY where I live.
The Costco rebate to the dealer is $1000 and without it they claim that the monthly payment would go up $28 a month.
Is there such a thing as the dealers verifying the address or a Costco denial to honor if the addresses don’t match?
While I can’t speak directly to the address problem, I have heard that Costco is definitely being very specific about making sure you meet all the terms and conditions of the offer.
Why not just change the address on your Costco card for the rebate to work?
I am on the phone with Costco right now. They don’t even know what the story is with the address. A member advocate will be calling me shortly.
If indeed they have a problem, I will try to change the billing address temporarily
I figured you would just plug in the info, they would give you a PIN, and it would be a done deal.
They never asked me for the PIN. I am under the impression that the dealer wanted to back out of the deal.
The volvo dealer that I spoke with this weekend told me that with Costco, the info is sent to costco who confirm or deny immediately. From there, the info is sent back to the dealership who do a secondary review of the info. It seems to be not nearly as simple as one would expect.
I’ve done a bunch of Costco deals this month.
It should be as simple as generating a PIN…
You know, I was just thinking about this and realized that my parents’ address in Florida is the address on my account (I’m technically the owner and they have the other card), but I opened it my Junior year in college, so I used their address. I had no problem getting a car in NJ, registered in NY, and the Costco address is Florida. I also already confirmed that I’m getting the Costco cash card/spoke to them for the survey for it.
Why does the link say $250 card? I was wondering if they upped it for June? The site clearly says $100:
Dont know enough about coding. I feel like 50% of this forum is made up of software engineers so Im sure someone can explain
Can a Costco PIN issued for a dealer be used with another one?
I’m sure it’s fine
Its not as simple as generating a pin. I had a customer get refuted that had a pin, in their name, because they added themselves as a member to a family member’s policy. The registered address must match up with that of the cardholder. The dealer is correct.
No kidding?
Thanks for the info man.
I’ve had a handful of these go through without any sort of issue. Good to know!
Somehow there is some sortof approval process through costco.
There is a checkbox on Costco before generating the PIN: something like “validate my deal”. If you select it, then Costco will follow up with the dealer to make sure you got what they promised, if not - then they won’t. That might be the difference, I guess.
Update:
I spoke with Costco and they have no issue with the card’s address not matching where the car will be registered. They called the dealer and approved the transaction.
I am picking up the car on Saturday.
That’s good. It’s odd that some are seemingly getting flagged in the first place. I would think name would be more important. There are plenty of people who may have their Costco account at one home and register their car at another. Hell, half of the luxury cars in the Northeast have FL plates!
