Costco A plan for volvo

Anyone know if I could get 6% off( invoice price) on a Volvo at anytime? I missed the July promo of extra $750+$250 rebate. Also, a dealer offer “We would have a deal at $10,000 off for a finance. Please send me a picture of your license and current drivers insurance card to proceed. If you would like to give me a call that works as well. “ I asked him to give me a breakdown list of selling price, fees, and finance rate” never heard back from him. Was there anything fishy in his offer? TIA

There is always something fishy if they want your license right away.

Costco isn’t offering the discount anymore but you get can the A plan incentives if you work for a company that is on the A plan list.

Otherwise 6% off MSRP is pretty easy to get on a volvo for the most part.

Thanks. We don’t have A plan thru work. I heard A plan can be stacked after negotiated selling price. I am aiming at 10k + off for MSRP ~$60k I don’t think it’s unreasonable for me to ask for a break down of the price. I don’t suppose dealers can do credit check wo written permission? They always asked for a copy of DL when we test drive. I understand finance rates are based on credit score but I don’t think we r at that point yet. Dealers always ask wether it’s cash or finance. so annoying, regardless, we need to agree on a sell price first.

If you don’t have A plan then none of it applies to you. But the A plan rules have changed. Dealers can no longer discount more than 6% off MSRP when using A plan (this applies to just dealer discount, incentives are unchanged).

If you don’t have A plan then try to get 10% off MSRP then add on volvo incentives (can be found on the volvocars.com website, find a car in inventory then click “payment calculator”)

They should not run a credit check just on your license.

They need to know if you are financing or leasing because it determines which incentives you qualify for.

Do not run credit check until everything in the deal has been finalized and you are ready to sign.

A plan is worthless now if you’re dealing on an xc90/60 for that $750. You should be able to simply get more discount on your own vs 6%

Thank you all for the replies. Extremely helpful. I guess with the current $3750 cash allowances for 2018 xc90 +10% off = roughly $10k without A plan.

Invoice is roughly 6% off MSRP. The discount doesn’t include the $995 destination fee and is reduced by the amount of the dealer’s advertising. I discount below invoice (ask to see it or tell me the VIN) should be a cake walk on any 2018.

Some people don’t know they have A-Plan even when their HR department says they don’t. And any employer for any of your household members count, too. Volvo Car Club of America counts if you’ve belonged for a year.

Stacking discounts on top of A-Plan ended July 3rd. A-Plan on S90s and V90s is $3,000 and that can’t be beat without it. The very rare A-Plan VIP is worth $1,500 on some cars vs $750 and that’s hard to beat.

A dealer could check your credit with verbal permission, but he has to have your social security number, not your driver’s license number. Asking for a driver’s license on a test drive is to make sure you’re licensed- having an accident in a car with an unlicensed driver is a big problem for the dealer.

Cash, finance, or lease can affect incentives, as 007 mentioned.

What area are you in? $3,750 sounds like an XC90 T6 incentive + loyalty on a purchase, but incentives vary from market to market.

Thank you for the detailed reply. I am in NY/NJ/ PA market. No wonder everyone was excited about the Costco deal. We started looking around that time but the dealer we worked w only had 2 cars on the lot that are not loaners w the options we wanted. So we missed it.I could be wrong, maybe it’s $2750 + $1000 loyalty ( I don’t qualify). Theres no additional incentive for financing right now? The dealer who’s further away from us gave $10k off straight “ need not to do anything to qualify” gave me the breakdown of 995 delivery fees, 300 processing ( I assume document) fee and taxes. but my husband didn’t want to drive that far to pick up the car. If we’re up to him, he would like it be delivered to the door, lol

There could be more incentives in your area- Ursus would probably know. There is a $995 destination fee included in the MSRP. Sometimes dealers like to add it back separately to make their selling price lower. In northern CA (and probably southern CA- I don’t know), there is a $2,750 dealer incentive on the 2018 XC90 T6, or $2,000 on the 2018 XC90 T5 for purchase or lease. On the 2019s, there’s $1,750 on the T6 (purchase) or $1,000 on T5 or T6 leases.

I’m sure $995 is the marked up acquisition fee. Volvo includes delivery/freight in their MSRP and I haven’t seen Volvo dealers quoting sales price that didn’t include freight.

@KD6-3.7@Ursus: thank you for the advices. I was afraid to ask questions trying to read as much as possible on my own thought the Costco A plan is always available:( here’s what the dealer emailed me” MSRP 59,490 with a 10K Discount, 995 Freight, 300 Dealer Processing, Sales Tax of 3,388.56, Tag & Titling Fee’s of 351 Cash on Delivery total is 54,887.56” it seems financing and cash purchase have the same incentives and it’s $1000 more than leasing. That’s why the dealer wrote cash on delivery$54887.56? He’s expecting me to finance on my own?

Some dealers are signed up with Costco to offer discount pricing, which varies from dealer to dealer. Costco A-Plan is gone, but a dealer can more than match the $750 incentive, anyway. $10K off MSRP sounds huge to me.

The dealer should want to finance the car to make a profit on it. If cash or financing is $1,000 cheaper than leasing, it’s probably because the dealer doesn’t get $1,000 on leasing that he gets for cash or finance. Or is that the loyalty rebate, which is $1,000 on cash/finance or $500 on leasing?

Volvo allowance is $2,750 on T6 and $2,000 on T5. It is 0 on 2019. I don’t see acquisition fee in the dealer’s breakdown. Your selling price should be $50,503 after 10% off MSRP and $2,750 Volvo allowance, assuming T6.

Is that double charging on the freight fee?

Not really. They show lower selling price to make it look more enticing - you see higher discount of MSRP, which does include freight. Didn’t see Volvo dealers doing it, but VW, Subaru do it all the time.
@carstwo - there is no XC90 cash on purchase.

Hi Ursula:
The selling price is $49490+$995Freight+$300(doc)+$351 tag+3388.56 tax=$54524.56 OTD.

Do you by any chance have the link of $80 or $100 Costco documentation fee cap statement? I couldn’t find it right now. Thx

Ursula…

@Ursus - the 2019 discounts I mentioned apply in the SF-AZ market.

Not aware of Costco caps on doc fees- I’d suggest calling them and finding out who your Costco dealers are within a distance you’re willing to travel.

iPhone knows more than I do and has its own mind:)
