Hi all,
For a 2021 BMW 7 series, what is the cost per mile of pre-paying for miles over 15,000? It used to be $0.20/mile, but I am not sure if that program changed.
Including @BMW_Dave just because he would probably know

On a 7 Series it is $0.25 per mile at lease inception and $0.30 per mile at the end of the lease.
Well I guess things changed. I have been getting different answers all day
Volvo1 - get a Volvo at $0.20
I wish. With the additional mileage needed for this lease, a CPO S90 is the way to go
It’s $0.30 on my contract from 2019, so I don’t think the change was recent.
That is probably the mileage penalty at lease-end, but I am trying to purchase those miles at the beginning of the lease.
Curious choice of car to drive so much… are you going to go out of warranty?
I’m sure you’ve already thought of fuel, maintenance, consumables like brakes, tires, etc.
The car will definitely be out of warranty by the end of term. However, previous experience with higher-mileage BMWs indicates that the cost of upkeep (maintenance and repairs at a trusted independent shop) is not much more expensive than a CPO counterpart with lower mileage to start. Repairs can vary, but the inline-6 has proven to be far better than the V8 at not self-destructing before 100,000 miles.
The most important factor on these cars is the cost of depreciation. Especially on a CPO 7, the depreciation cost will far outweigh the cost of a set of tires, brakes, etc. One 7 that is in the local area is CPO 2020 with around 18,000 miles on it. Listed for $64,000, but I can probably be at $61,000 before tax, tag, fees, etc. Driving that vehicle for 3 years at approximately 30,000 miles per year puts that car in the price range of a 2017 BMW 7 with 110,000 miles (Fair Market Value of $19,569). Assuming these values are not inflated by the volatile used car market, which they probably are, that would mean the depreciation cost is $1,150.86 monthly or $41,431 overall. This could always increase and 110,000 miles on a BMW could end up with additional repairs. Add to the fact that the CPO could come with some wear on tires and in need of an additional set of brakes during ownership. Only factoring depreciation costs, the cost of leasing for my current deal is already less than this with the added mileage, but still in negotiations.
This favors the lease but I may be missing a factor that changes the calculation.
