Corvettes Sitting on Dealer Lots

Was kind of shocked to see such a large supply of Corvettes sitting on dealer lots… maybe it might be Vette buying season? I can see why dealers would want all the allotments for them, but it may just be exacerbating a larger problem.

Kerbeck is advertising $47k for $57k MSRP without any haggling. If you’re in the NE or Midwest, with the off season and glut of cars, it’s deal making time!

Definitely deal making time… they’re stocking up on a bunch of impractical, inefficient, V8 sport cars in a crowded segment.

The business model is crazy to me… I’m all for keeping the Corvette around simply because, duh, more options… but man.

There’s so much complexity to Corvettedom.

The dealers gotta buy a bunch of 2019s to have chances at C8 allocations if I understand correctly. (It’s highly possible I don’t. I’m no industry insider!)

The changing of generations always makes some discombobulated sales antics and ultimately, smoking deals—especially if you’re open to colors and options.

But then the used Vette market is ripe with ultra low mileage examples that have been garaged 99.9% of their lives under a cover. Lots of Vette owners do more cleaning than driving, but they are emotionally attached and don’t always see the actual (lower) value of their cars.

I’d love a Vette, but I cannot go 2-seater yet. (Dammit, daughter, hit that 40-pound booster seat mark already!)

Who is buying these anyway? I know the obvious answer to this is NO ONE given the article.

But I’m kind of curious as to who these are really marketed at? As a millennial European , I’m absolutely not the target market but I assume it’s what? - middle aged men, looking for a weekend car?

Complete wild speculation - It feels to me, without having any data or understanding of that audience whatsoever, is that there is less and less appetite for these kind of cars. I would prefer an SQ5 or X3M over a Corvette but that’s because I’m boring and also super lazy. (see millennial comment above) - having to haul my ‘powerfully built’ frame in and out of a low slung Corvette all day? Naah.

Whether marketing du juor or de facto, the Vette crowd is largely 55 and up. The vast majority.

It’s kind of an American working man aspiration vehicle IMO.

Yeah I think I’d agree with you. However, I’d caution that the problem with an ageing market is that dead people don’t tend to buy many cars.

I think it’s probably a very similar market that would once have bought a ‘Harley’ and sales there have equally fallen off a cliff.

It’s still one of the best performance cars for the money, all the enthusiasts are holding out for the mid engine

Old people who live in a 10 mile radius from where my apartment is, the center of many drivers who own a weekend getaway car that’s rarely used but a nice show piece. I also wonder if most of them are purchased as they’re barely putting any miles on them from what I can tell they look way too mint.

However, I think the market for these muscle cars are shrinking too, how many of these vettes can one man own before he’s got enough of them, and the new millennial generation around me want more economical vehicles that serve dual purposes.

Well we are really good at killing things off! bikes, sports cars, sedans, department stores, the Canadian tourism industry…but we’ll always have our avocado (or imitation avocado) toast.

I didn’t know that millennials even drove, i thought they just used Uber, mass transit and bike/scooter shares. I wonder what percentage of millennials could drive a clutch car.

Here’s one that can! But I grew up learning to drive on some of the best damn driving roads in the UK that lend themselves so well to mashing through the gears in a manual.

Stuck bumper to bumper on the 405 at 6pm? Not so much.

We moved to OC in 2013 and leased a 2013 G37S 6MT immediately. Loved the car, but it taught me that manual driving in Ohio <> manual driving in OC.

(24 months 10k miles sign and drive $420 and got them to tint windows!)

The question is always where will the leases come in at?
