I have a 2022 XC60 B5 with close to 40K miles on it. It was purchased on loan with ~24 months remaining (~@930/m). It is soon due for 40K service along with tire replacement which in total is estimated to cost atleast $2K.
This got me thinking if I should even keep this car considering it will be out of factory warranty in less than a year (I drive ~12K/yr) and extended warranty costs $4000+.
Does it make sense to replace this with plugin hybrid or EV (I get free EV charging at work) considering there are good deals nowadays? I’m looking for a car with much better speakers (like Bowers and Wilkins?) and better performance (another reason why I’m considering PHEV or EV).
I’m not trying to save dollar to dollar either but for some reason I’m feeling continuing with current car is too wasteful considering depreciation, etc. May be I’m wrong. I dont know and that is the reason for this post. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated!
You’re probably going to pay for new tires (in the form of lower market / trade value) even if you sell / trade the car as-is, and the remaining $500(?) maintenance, allocated toward a new vehicle instead, might cover the first year of CA registration.
I’m not here to make an impassioned argument for keeping what you have, just pointing out that the transaction costs alone will be thousands of dollars if you get something new.
Buying and selling a Volvo after 3 years is never a good plan. Sounds like you are the type of person who should be leading, which I assume is why you are here. Look through the marketplace and find a good deal. Also get buy bids in your Volvo from the usual online suspects.
Go to CarMax, cargurus, etc and see what the offers are for your current car. That alone will tell you whether it’s worth selling and getting into something new.
I’m in same situation, I also have a 2022 Volvo xc60 b5 and brought it on a loan. Have around 2yrs left. Lol. I it has around 30k miles. Checked Edmund’s and carguru website, says it has 3k in equality.
