As it says in the title, I’m looking for an EV SUV with the best trunk space that is compact (180-185 inches long). It seems like some of the best of this group (EV6, Ioniq 5), have a hatchback shape which severely limits the space in back.
From some searching, it seems like the best trunk space would be in the Mercedes EQB, followed by the VW ID4. And maybe the Mustang Mach E is a consideration. Any others I should be looking at?
The other half of the equation is cost. Really hoping to arrive at a lease payment of around $400 or less with zero DAS. This is complicated by residing in Philadelphia, where I’m looking at 11% tax.
We have two young kids, currently in a CRV which has much more space than any of these options. We don’t have any one regular load that fills the back, but we just regularly get it pretty full. I’d say we’re looking at a space big enough to fit two kids bikes.
Hitch is not always possible and/or worth it to install on leased car.
I still have my hitch bike rack from leased 2018 Lexus NX300H. LOL.
But OP can always go with trunk bike rack.
So I guess part of the reason for my question is that it seems like cargo space reports from car makers are not all calculated in the same way. Also, sometimes larger cubic feet measurements don’t always translate into more usable room. So it seems like just reviewing reported cargo space figures isn’t conclusive.
That said, ID4 has 30, MME has 30, the EQB has 26, and EV6 has 24. And the Ariya has 22. Do you think the Ariya space really competes?
Yeah I actually have a bike rack. It’s less that I need to store the bikes actually, and more that I’m using them as a metric to show how big I’m hoping the trunk will be.
It’s got plenty of space in the back. For reference I hauled this range in the back, with seats folded down, almost-new from some used appliance store for 50% off in the back of my Ariya. I did have to take the front over door off, but that’s basically the size you should expect. Also had 2 carry on size suitcases in the car + the drawer underneath inside
Agree with this. They’re cheap and the boxy shape makes the trunk a good height for hauling a stroller upright. I had one as a loaner for a few weeks and found it was very convenient for stroller and had good headspace in the rear seats for managing kids and car seats. It may lack in total volume, but it’s more practically designed for hauling taller objects like a stroller or pack and play, even if it’s ugly as hell from the outside.
You can get this one for <$350 with MSDs on a 10k/36 term:
