What’s the story with the leasing deals I’m seeing on these? I really like the look of the Blazer EV and walked into a GM dealership near my office just to talk numbers, being very upfront that I was only there to look at the car and ask what terms they had been seeing on well qualified leases. They came back at something like $700/mo with $0 down. If that’s market rate then hey fair enough, just seems like a far cry from what I see online!
The key is to be able to show a dealer that you are a serious buyer at the number you are offering them. Nobody is walking off the street and having these kinds of deals offered to them in the first instance at virtually any dealership. You need to work at it and keep trying at different dealerships until you find one that is motivated to make a deal in your favor. This is best done via email and phone, a cow that walks into a slaughterhouse usually ends up getting exactly what you would expect them to get.
Yeah, that’s fair. I’ve financed too many cars to count and it’s a different ballgame because I always walk in with my own financing lined up and it’s usually just a matter of the paperwork, but I’ve never leased and my gaps in knowledge definitely show.
There’s another GM dealership I was gonna go talk to tomorrow morning, just not sure where to start on these negotiations.
If you want a Blazer EV there are lots of date points on here. Craft a realistic deal based on what others have posted. Be sure to understand that taxes vary by state. So, make sure you adjust for that. FL will probably have very high doc fee (around $1k), so factor that into your calculation.
Don’t do that. Engage them via phone or email once you are ready to buy and you have a target deal in mind. If you keep walking in to talk to dealers they will keep playing the same game looking to go back and forth, wearing you down. Very few, if any deals here are successfully brokered face to face dealing with the management tower and 4 squares.
Understood. Any advice on how to put together a target deal? If I say something as simple as “$350 a month, $0 down, 24/10” is that an acceptable starting point? I’m going through the signed section and it doesn’t seem too far off although I’m sure I’m missing details.
Good deals on these have been around 7% to 10% off MSRP before rebates. From there it’s a matter of what rebates you qualify for. 24 months is the best term and it’s just a matter of how many miles you need, just keep in mind that you will have to pay a little more if you need 12k, 15k, etc. Use that information combined with the program data (residual, money factor… Become a LH Supporter or pull it off the Edmunds forums) and put it together in the LH calculator with the appropriate dealer fees, taxes for your region, DMV fees, etc. You can throw a simple basic number out there but you have to be prepared to explain how you are getting there if they ask you. You could also ask for quotes via email and make counter offers too. The biggest key to scoring a good deal on one of these is a large pre incentive dealer discount. Everything else falls into place after that.
Looking at the calculator and the Edmunds forums, I’m starting to understand how this works. I am going to put together the outline of an offer and send it over to the sales guy I was talking to at the other dealership. Thanks so much for your help, really.
You can make them an offer if you want but my suspicion is that a dealer offering a quote like that in the first instance on a car that’s virtually impossible to sell without significant discounts probably isn’t worth your time. It doesn’t hurt to try but be prepared for a long list of reasons why they can’t do it. In the future I would suggest emailing a sales manager directly to begin discussions since they actually have some authority over pricing and the salespeople are going to have to talk to them anyway once you reject their full sticker price/marked up initial offers.
Hey dude, I wanted to come back and thank you. I just got back from a GM dealership and got out the door for $340/mo 24/10 $0 down. Your advice and the $10 I spent here on Leasefindr made a world of difference. Really man, thank you.
