Hahaha okay so I guess the direction I’m being advised is to go for a beater to learn. But, just in case, the cheapest would be a Jetta to lease? Not the Golf? I would much rather a Golf than a Jetta
Don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, but if you were to wear out your clutch on your brand new, leased car it would not be covered under warranty and would be pretty expensive to replace at a dealership.
On a beater (which has probably survived a lot of abuse to date), you either fix it for cheap or junk it (or donate it). Pay a mechanic to give it a good look-over, and you’ll be good for a while on the big things like engine, tranny and clutch.
Go get a Golf Wolfsburg. And learning is easy. Who cares if you stall a leased car a few times.
Is this realistic? It would take 26% off MSRP on a base Wolfsburg (and that cap cost includes the doc fee) to get to 150-ish a month
Seen them advertised at 15-16k. Never tried to put together a deal. VW is struggling a bit in US, so I think deals can be done. That said, I don’t have any anecdotes.
Pretty hard to wear out a clutch in 30-40k miles unless you are tracking the car every weekend. Most will go over 100k without a problem. I have a friend who drives his Jetta like he stole it and has over 90k miles on original clutch.
OP why don’t you rent a few days on Turo or another alternative renting platform? I know a guy who rents out both his manual cars on Turo and even offers a lesson to start off…
I feel like renting from a private party is going to be a terrible idea with the chance that I may mess it up.
Who is the guy that you know offers a lesson? Where is this guy located?
