Only rule is nothing down but first month payment. Never personally leased as I do way too many miles on my primary car. 20k in the past year. She is in optometry school with no support from parents and primarily only students loans. Been dating 2 years so I am not worried about taking on the responsibility of a payment for her to have reliable transportation. I had been looking for a used Rav4 or something but in Memphis, I haven’t found anything worth the cash payment.
Thanks. The “cheapest” requirement is really for her as she refuses to take any assistance as it makes her feel guilty. I know it’s going to be a big day for her in 2-3 years when she can buy/lease something herself that is exactly what she wants so a lease makes the most sense right now. The problem with the Memphis area is I have not found anywhere that comes close to anything I have seen on here. I’m not expecting the cheapest or craziest deal but it needs to make some sense. For instance, VW wanted way over $300 for a base Jetta lease out the door. The number they show on their website is a joke. Chevy dealers refuse to communicate over email etc… It’s exhausting.
I know what you are going thru. Dealers in the South tend to be less willing to work with you then dealers in other parts of the country (CA or NY).
Have you looked at Mazda. They have a decent “starting” lease on their Mazda 6. While their website shows money down, I think you would be able to eliminate that by negotiating a lower capitalization amount. The Mazda 6 gets great reviews for its drivability.
The other option would be to consider working with a broker out of state and driving it/shipping it back. There is a broker out of MA that has some great deals on Hyundais and Toyotas.
Best of Luck and keep us informed on your progress.
Once you narrow it down by doing research you will be better off. So many cars out there hard to tell someone what to look at if you don’t know them.
Once you figure that out I would extend the search as far as you are willing to go. Email every dealer. Yes I said every dealer. It takes time to get responses and you don’t know who is will to play ball or not.
