Cheapest car for 2-6 months

Hi all. I was recently rear ended in my model Y and turns out it’s being totalled. As a result I ordered another one that could take 2-6 months to get delivered. Our rental car runs out in a few days and keeping the rental would be nuts. I’m curious if anyone has thoughts on long term rentals? Maybe a short lease that’s crazy cheap? I’m up for any ideas. I drive very little but I definitely need a car for when my wife is using ours.

Willing to drive anywhere in socal to get a good deal.

I looked into turo and even the cheapest garbage car is $18/day.

Thanks!

Joking aside - forget about leasing or purchasing a vehicle for a potential few months. That is not worth the hassle of tracking down a deal and completing the paperwork, IMO. Try to negotiate a rental if anything. I would shop around to see who has the lower rates. Call the location, explain your situation, and try to bring the price down some. It will work if you find the right employee. If you have status with any company, I would try that first.

Thanks! I was thinking that too but so far cheapest monthly rentals I’ve seen have been upwards of $600-700 per month. I’ll keep searching around though.

I think $600 a month is fairly reasonable for a short term lease. Especially in todays market.

Altimas are in the 250-300 range

If it really is just 2-6 months I’d consider a used Camry/Corolla. Prob won’t lose much if you buy it right

Can’t you just get one from inventory?

Thousands in sales tax and ridiculous CA registration fees down the drain, even if you sell it for exactly what you bought it for.

Good suggestion from you

A long term rental is probably the lowest short term tco… or just getting an inventory tesla instead of waiting on an order.

Maybe check swapalease for someone nearing the end of something that aligns with your usage patterns. Cars for Lease in California – Swapalease.com

What what I wonder… what is the replacement order Y that it would take 2-6 months considering Tesla’s inventory glut right now?

Maybe you want a certain color which is understandable but at the pace they are cranking, it might be close to 2 months so a short term rental would be the most flexible.

Plus… the “fire” sale is only until March… so maybe get what you can and if doesn’t match the color you need… wwwwrrrrap it!

Psst, I heard there are over 500 BMWs on Swapalease just waiting for someone to pick em up…lol

What’s odd is there are over 500 Mercs as well…but Merc doesn’t allow lease swaps

Tesla has over 200 but they don’t allow in the last 12 months.

So BMW it is!

Edit : Just for S&Gs I did a search of all leases <= 12 months and found 140+ cars. Here you go OP!

Probably unpopular take, but I’d just do the 18-mo Altima and push back the Tesla order til next year.

I was thinking about doing something like that but there’s a limit to how long Tesla will let you push it out. (I ran into that problem before). Also the $7500 tax credit may decrease by March or June.

Currently scheduled for March

That’s what I’m hearing too. I’d rather take delivery before March if possible

I just sold my 3 month old 2023 4Runner 4x2 and made few bucks on it actually. So I’d say any Toyota that is discounted with a TFS lease.

Private sale or to a dealer? The hassle differs.

Love GMTV. Sold my TRX to them in November 22. They came in thousands higher than my 2nd best offer
