I’m going to be turning in my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L at the end of this month. Lease was through CCAP. I checked the contract, and the only fees specified are the disposition fee and any mileage overages (I’m ignoring wear and tear for now). I’m now being told by the dealers closest to me that there will also be a processing fee to turn in the vehicle (in addition to the disposition fee). CCAP is saying these are valid, but once again, not part of the contract. Are these BS fees I should fight? I’m in the Raleigh, North Carolina area if it helps.
The last couple leases I’ve had, have had a $300+ turn in fee. I think it’s pretty standard. Mine was spelled out in my contracts and advised at signing too. If you lease another vehicle from the same dealer they’ll typically waive the turn in fee though.
It is a violation of federal law (consumer leasing act of 1976) for them to charge fees that are not included in the original contract. The dispo fee, mileage, wear and tear, etc are all fair game but the dealer processing fee is not.
The dealer can not charge you a processing fee for turning in the vehicle. My guess is this dealer does not want to deal with grounding your vehicle since they are unlikely to buy it from CCAP.
