Carvana Lays Off 2500 Employees

Ha, potentially… if you are Polynesian or European. Otherwise, us Americans need authorization from their government IIRC.

One of THE best places that I’ve been to yet.

If you’re really rich, that doesn’t matter.

Was about to that. Money has a way or solving that problem.

That goes without saying. :palm_tree: :moneybag: :moneybag: :moneybag:

So if you were planning to buy a car from Carvana and potentially utilize their 7-day return policy, probably a bad idea, right?

I am actually serious here in case that was in question. Scheduled to pick the car up on Friday and paying cash. PPI scheduled for early next week. If anything is uncovered, planning on using warranty to correct or just return the car depending on the severity. Any thoughts given recent developments?

Other than the usual concerns getting the title, no. Drivetime is still solvent, if Carvana implodes I expect they would BK and carve out the unprofitable inventory, maybe shuffle assets with DT.

I wouldn’t do business with them at this point, but a used car lot could be just as bad, you never know.

If they go bankrupt the shareholders get wiped out. Some bondholders. And debtor in possession financing keeps things moving so checks clear and cars sell. I’d sell to them (or vroom for that matter) for sure but yeah wouldn’t sit on the check.

You couldn’t pay me to spend my retirement years sitting in a sous vide bag with the humidifier running on high.

Ha! My first visit, we finally landed in Bora Bora and I neglected to swap my pants for shorts. The airports are open air there. We were also coming from temps in the upper 30s, mind you. I thought I was dead on the spot. Let’s just say, that was the last time I made that mistake. :joy:

Hertz would like a word. Hertz shareholders made out like bandits in BK

Yep.

When we went to Puerto Rico a few years ago we arrived late in the evening.

The next morning, within 5 minutes of stepping outside I knew that it would take a kidnapper and ketamine to get me back to the Caribbean.

It’s like saying “No EV for me” after one unlucky car rental.

From the west coast I could get not wanting to go to PR. I’d take the shorter direct flight to Hawaii even if a little more expensive on Island. But for someone on east coast San Juan is one of the easiest warm weather places to get to due to extensive air service and it being a domestic flight. I agree it’s not the premier Caribbean destination but sometimes you just need a weekend away from 35 and overcast with a 80% chance of rain.

Also, the weather looks pretty good right about now.

I assure you that isn’t the only tropical destination I’ve visited and blacklisted for non-work travel.

If I’d have to pack the stank protection, I’m out.

So what’s next after you are done with oil and Carvana and real estate?

Crypto? Or are you starting to load stock as they become cheaper every day?

I’ve been in all cash for awhile now. My retirement is still in high divi large cap stocks and still doing relatively well.

Im just collecting my 3-4% waiting for an opportunity. It’s not time yet although some stuff is starting to look attractive. I do buy my monthly physical precious metals still and always will.

American eagles sell for close to $40. Spot is $22. The market is completely detached and will continue that direction. I still think silver and gold (and other metals)have more upside. I used to buy eagles for $2 over spot. I won’t touch them at these prices, just generic rounds as close to spot as possible.

The boat market is crashing hard down here, that’s likely my next major purchase. Hardly an investment but I’ll find a way to tax deduct some of it, I haven’t bought anything fun in 2+ years. I’ll reward myself when everyone else is doing the opposite. I’ve always been a contrarian investor.

Hey, that’s a great way to literally sink your portfolio!

What’s the point of working 100 hours a week if you can’t enjoy the fruits of it? Can always use the boat as my home office!
