Can CA buyer pursue East Coast PNDs (Mazda and Mitsubishi PHEVs specifically)?

I am in CA but interested in pursuing the following East-Coast-exclusive PHEV deals. By any chance I can find CA brokers/dealers who can match or even beat these PND?

And why are these deals only available to East Coast residents to start with? I am genuinely trying to understand the reasons behind the conditions, assuming that shipping across states is doable logistically. Thanks in advance for clarifying

you know the marketplace has similar deals for the mazda.

And no one in CA will want to wish a Mitsubishi on you. They will probably not exist soon enough.

It’s usually because the selling dealer(s) do not want to deal with long-distance or out-of-state deals. Same way many CA dealers won’t sell out-of-state.

More common issues include funding issues (delays, rejections, and if the deal falls thru for whatever reason after the car is shipped then what?), DMV/registration issues (CA notorious for that), and then the big F-word (fraud). And if you’re in a large enough market like the east coast or CA, there is very little reason to take these risks.

Exceptions are typically high-end or exotics. Much smaller market for those thus the need to expand to a nationwide audience.

CA is a difficult state for dealers out of state to do registrations in, as I believe it requires the client to do some kind of inspection and send back paperwork before the dealer can complete the reg.

Also, most PND sellers won’t offer it because most people aren’t willing to pay to ship a $50k car 3 states over, let alone cross country.

Yes

All of my leases have involved making offers based on advertised (and signed) deals found on LH. Both in-state and out of state.

Note that some manufacturers base incentives and lease programs on registration address, others on dealer location, and that some lease programs and incentives also vary from one place to another.

Registration for the same car can be $1,000 in CA and $65 in Ohio, as another example.

Some states don’t tax incentives, others do.

For these reasons, multiple deals of identical deal quality can have dramatically different total costs.

When you’re evaluating deal quality / making offers you have to take these things into account. LH calculator is tremendously helpful for this.

Gonna answer a different aspect of the question

CX90 is unreliable.

Mitsubishi as a US dealer network is comatose and the Outlander is useless as a 3-row SUV.

For a Mazda? Unlikely. For reason I don’t understand (although I think a broker might’ve explained it yrs ago), Mazdas deals in the NE are generally much better than they are anywhere else (IMHO).

I searched for Mazda deals in the marketplace but rarely find any PHEV offers. Maybe it’s a less popular choice in CA?

The reviews on mitsubishi are so mixed. But people tend to agree that their cars are reliable. My next question is, would dealership network matter much for a 24m lease? Is it possible that mitsubishi dealership would collapse or exit north America in the new two years? I don’t know enough, but feeling doubtful that would be the case

There are a few mitsubishi dealers in my 1-2h drive radius. So it’s not super inaccessible in my personal case

Here, you just have to PAY to PLAY

Oh thank you!

Really appreciate your clarifications!

Reasonable. Appreciate your sharing of knowledge!

Thank you!

I did sign up to access the Rate Finder but lack directions for what to target. Browsing through PND and marketplace seem to be a good starting point to monitor market tends and opportunities of the month. Would you say that is how you go about car shopping these days? (I read about shifted “shopping style” in a different post and try to emulate)

Interesting. Now I need to learn more about mazda reliability

Like I mentioned in another response, I thought mitsubishi dealership network won’t be a big issue if I am leasing only for 2-3 years and living around several in so-cal. Is there something else I should consider? Thanks

Depends on which models. Mazdas are generally known for reliability, but the CX-70/-90 use tech new that’s new for Mazda, snd Motor Trend wasn’t sad to end their long-term test of the CX-90.

I browse Marketplace and Signed Deals forums to get a general sense of which models to target based on generous incentives, strong lease programs and solid prevailing dealer discounts.

The main thing you’re trying to glean from individual posted deals (offers or those others have signed) is the percentage of dealer discount to target (before deducting manufacturer incentives). The dealer discount is one of the very few levers that’s discretionary for the selling dealer, and it’s general by far the biggest.

If you haven’t already, spend some time learning how to operate the LH calculator and where to gather the inputs.

This will help you do all of the necessary calculations on your own so you can make offers, instead of emailing or (god forbid) dropping in at a dealer and asking for a price (and then wondering if it’s a good deal or not).

This took some time for me to pick up, but you’re on the way!
