California License plate and registration fees costs

I am working with an out of state dealer (Florida) and getting ready to sign my paperwork for bringing home a 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe to California.

Among other non tax fees, My dealer is charging $1065 for license plate and registration costs. I was wondering if the government fees are typically this high for registering a leased vehicle in California. I don’t want to confront the dealer if these fees are legit. appreciate your inputs.

Thanks

You’re probably looking at $850-ish depends where you live in CA but roughly that’s the DMV cost, you will get a refund if the dealer overcharged-it’s a standard practice to get more from you rather than less and then chase you for the extra payment

Thanks for your reply @BYGFEET

That helps. Wondering if CA DMV costs increase significantly if I decide to do a one-pay lease versus a standard 36 month lease. Thanks

Somewhere the taxed incentives will be paid, independent of monthly sales/use tax

This should make no difference

california dmv website has a fee estimate calculator. Some fees are based off a % of the cost of the car.

Im staring at a dmv renewal now and the License fee is the biggest part that is variable to the cost of the car.

The issue with that form is that it doesn’t give the whole estimate-it’s generic for a “purchased” vehicle rather than just a lease… and then the rebates should be taxed but sometimes they aren’t or dealership didn’t properly record them etc. This happened when I leased from LA dealer-there was nothing in the taxed incentives line and DMV never asked me to pay anything on top of registration only… Now the AZ dealer had recorded the tax for this on the lease agreement

CA also charges more to register EVs

How does any of this make sense? Florida has the highest dealer fees in the country. And shipping is expensive, and you’ve chosen one of the longest routes in the continental 48.

You really couldn’t find a deal anywhere closer?
