That’s a fun new one. Thanks.
I canceled two months ago. If I knew it would be a big deal, I’d have done that. Too late now though.
What state are you in?
That would narrow down the dealer pretty easily given the dearth of options. Trying to avoid that just in case.
It’s in the Midwest, so transfer to a coast if you’re going to cancel.
Fair enough.
Since the deposit seems to be with the dealer and not with Cadillac (I’m not familiar with the contract you entered into), I was just curious if dealer deposits are refundable by law (like in CA) or not.
Is the dealer or Cadillac the merchant on your Amex account? Who are the contracting parties on your agreement (you and the dealer, or you and Cadillac/GM?)?
That’s why I was asking.
Got it. Everything has to go through the dealer for Lyriq preorders. Cadillac corporate can wave an angry finger, but I doubt they go to the mat for $100 for a guy who isn’t buying one of their cars now. Could be a bad look if I get squeaky though.
You can move your order to another dealer. As someone else pointed out, that likely would have avoided this mess. But there’s no way I’d know the mess was going to occur until it’s too late to transfer.
I’ve never heard of it experienced this midwesternness concept you’ve expressed, but it sounds more like passive aggressive and victimy than nice. Just dispute the charge and let Amex or whomever deal with it.
Giving people time to do what they said they’re going to do isn’t “passive aggressive”. I also can’t dispute the charge twice.
I didn’t single out the dealer intentionally - I’m not here to complain about the specific dealer which might be “passive aggressive” had I named them.
I may be missing something…If you’re giving them time (which seems nice on the surface), why even post/complain about it? That’s the part that seems victimy and passive aggressive.
To get some other ideas when I stop giving them time. Which is exactly what everyone else was kind enough to assist with. As I said repeatedly, they have a week left and I’m going other routes after that. I appreciate most assisting with some ideas on the other routes. A couple ideas I hadn’t considered were thrown out.
I didn’t see where you had asked for advice in your original post. There are some good ideas in here. I’d lean on your credit card company to deal with it. Dealers of American cars are notoriously shady in my area because of theitlr typical buyers - assuming the same there. Good luck!
i had this exact same thing with my silverado EV reservation. call GM corporate and get them on the case.
