CA registration renewal fee on lease extension

Hi Everyone,

GM financial has agreed to extend my wife’s Cruze lease by 2 months while we look for an alternative vehicle. It just dawned on us that the vehicle registration needs to be renewed. We are looking at ~$250 for the registration + the usual monthly lease payment.

Is there any way around this? CA DMV doesn’t prorate registration fees, and we would really like to hold onto the car for another 2 months.

I’m not aware of any way around those fees.

If you want to drive (legally) on the streets you have to pay registration.
