CA - Looking for car recommendations that come with Carpool sticker and are 'fun' to drive

haha, not really.
My lease ends in Jul, so I have about 6-7 months. I was gonna start test driving cars in Jan, in case I had to put a deposit down and wait for a car because I do see a some of these newer cars have wait times that stretch for months.

What I was hoping for from this post is to help short list cars. I’d rather not test drive every single car that qualifies for the carpool sticker. If people have insights, would love to hear it. So far, nothing has struck out.

Personally Im ok with going over the budget for the ’ right’ car. But it has to be reasonable but I haven’t quite figured out what I am max willing to pay yet.

You should probably look at buying a Mach E Premium or California Rt 1 Edition.

The TOL Ioniq5 should be out by then it’s pretty powerful.

I saw the AoA review on Ionic 5 and I was impressed. Lets see when these hit the dealer lots and without a significant mark up

7 months wait should calm down the markup as long as the Carpocalypse is winding down.

Ive had a 330e, good car, fun to drive. switched to a model 3 performance, also fun to drive, has its quirks. If your okay with full electric, the 3 performance offers a good bang for the buck in terms of speed and handling.

Im not sure any of the bigger sedas and SUV/ cross overs would be “fun” to drive, but thats subjective…But if you like outdoor stuff, 20 inch rims with thin tires, means no off the side of the road parking/ice/snow or heavy rain.

ya I aint touching a tesla. Call it personal aversion (just like people have to say Kia or other brands)

used prius prime…and get another fun car?

All the plug in hybirds are kind of sloths and feel heavy compared to the ICE counterparts… If you can have only 1 car, you may be stuck.

good luck

We just got a 330e in the family and it certainly doesn’t feel like a sloth even compared to our Teslæ.

Pleasantly surprised this thread is still alive but here is the update as of today. Sigh.

Placed an order for a 2023 Mini SE BEV. Only 114 mi range but supposedly fun to drive.

Should look at the volvo c40 as well

Yeah I should but it kinda looks small, no?

it’s a little smaller than the XC40 for sure but it’s sure bigger than my Niro. Since you haven’t TD’d the XC40 yet, walk a bit and try the C40 at the same time. The C40 has a higher towing rating if you need it.

The XC40 is by all means an adequate SUV. I don’t think it’s too small at all, less you’re actually hauling anything other than shopping in the trunk.
